Prejudice and discrimination still exists today. When there is the idea of race in the world, their continually perpetuates prejudice and discrimination. People in the world still judge others by their color of their skin preventing them to have equal rights due to racial stratification and the idea of the glass ceiling. Furthermore, if their is prejudice there must be discrimination. Humans act upon their ideas and fight for what they believe in morally correct in activists. An example would be the organizations like the New Black Panthers and the Ku Klux Klan. On July 18th, the two groups came to the South Carolina Capitol to dispute over the Confederate Flag. I never really questioned my authorities. I am a type of person who is obedient to my elders. I would think that employers are looking for the best possible candidate and if they do not choose me I accept it and improve myself as a person. I guess you would say I lived up to the American Dream that hard work can get you anywhere. Besides me, there are other people in this world that are continuously being mistreated due to their skin color. According to Peggy McIntosh’s “White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack”, white privilege is like the positive benefits of a job. For example, you work in the world’s well-known company, you get everything you want and have your life catered to you because of this special position. However, in reality, this is the special job is your skin color. Your “whiteness” lets you have the constant benefits in life. But whites rarely realize this because its innate. Throughout history in America, skin color is always white. Think about the lineage of Presidents and famous leaders of America. It is mostly white. Because of the foundation of America is built upon white supremacy, if your skin color is white, you automatically obtain the benefits in life. When McIntosh lists the advantages, it was similar to the activity we did in class. If you have white privilege, no one would really stop the process of your life. No one would judge you because of your skin color. Being white helps whites have the edge or the advantage in something than not being white. I watched a video about race last year. They set up and experiment about white privilege. There is a white and black student looking for a job. They gave both students the same exact, word for word, resume to the same company.
