This score falls into the category of being “well on your way to becoming a good leader” (MindTools, 2015). The two areas where I need to focus my attention to becoming a better leader are motivating people to deliver the vision and providing support and stimulation. To be successful in motivating people, managerial influence must be present. Expert, referent, and informational power have been shown to be effective tools of managerial influence. These influential bases of power also correlate positively with trust (Frost & Moussavi, 2011). In doing this assessment, the results are not surprising for me. I am a newer leader and have given much attention to learning the ways of leadership and how I fit into the organizational chart. I will accomplish this by encouraging RNs to continue their education thus increasing their knowledge base. In this manner I will be a role model as I am furthering my own education and knowledge base. Delegating tasks is difficult for me though I can empower my teams by giving them projects which will motivate them and encourage teamwork to complete the projects. In delegating more tasks this is a strategy for building my personal power base. I will not be overwhelmed with projects and will utilize that time for mentoring the staff. In the staffing office there is a major project that I am in charge of for the hospital. Powerful leaders are able to raise the morale of staff as they delegate more and build with the effort of the team (Marquis & Huston, 2012). To increase my power of the nursing profession, I would like to initiate a study on self-scheduling for nursing staff. This will be information which is evidence-based research to assist other facilities in the positives and negatives of self-scheduling.
