Implications and Consequences: I believe institutional investors can really affect the balance of power in sustainability. And when I say investors, I mean large investors like pension funds, foundations and endowments. The problem is many politicians and investors think investing in sustainability is expensive. I think it’s less complicated than they think. Many investors may shrug their shoulders are this present reality because they’re environmental issues, but they’re really also economic issues and THAT makes them relevant to risk and return.
Have you seen that show “Shark Tank?” Have you noticed when they’re looking at a company before they invest, they want to know financial data. They immediately ask about the sales growth, cash flow, what are they going to get for their investment. They’re not really looking at things in this approach environment, social and governance, are they? But what I notice about them is that they focus on the here and now. But as sustainability matters more financially today, and a lot of science indicates more tomorrow, shouldn’t they begin
