The Importance Of Playing With The Scorpions

I just don’t understand why my old man keeps telling me his lectures over and over again. It’s not like I am a bad boy or anything like that. I just failed math, not such a big deal, you know what I mean. I just know if I go home my old man would lecture endlessly about my poor efforts in math. He would always say, “I had to leave school when I was thirteen, that’s a year younger than you are now. If I’d had half the chances you have, I’d...” All that stuff that I could care less about. He often tells me how hard he worked to pass the test. Things had changed now, I had heard the story too many times to be interested. This is going to be the darkest hour that I had so far. I am alone and don’t know what to do with myself. For a moment I heard scraping against the wall, but it stopped abruptly. The wind along with the rain shook the glass window. I am by myself, all alone. Then I heard the noise again. I had butterflies in my stomach as I listened carefully, pinpointing the origin of the noise. This time it wasn’t the scraping noise, though, it was something breathing. The breathing sound is in the room with me. My muscles began to tense up. Frightened, I looked up to a flash of light that lighten up the room. As I eagerly looked around, I couldn’t see anything except an overturned table, a pile of rags, and old newspapers on the floor. “This must just be my imagination”, I said to comfort myself. I continued to listen, but heard nothing. Thinking that it might just be rats, I had a moment of relief. Still I was thinking about leaving this building once it stopped raining.
