The Importance Of Playing Out Field

Decent Essays
The first practice I went to was a horrible. Some of these girls didn’t have a clue of what they were doing. They were at least thirteen or fourteen years old and could barely throw a ball. This blew my mind when I seen it. The whole practice we went over fundamentals and how to use our techniques. When our practice was over for the junior high the high school girls were next. When I was getting ready to leave practice my coach asked me if I would stay and practice with the high school girls. This was just summer league so if I impressed the coach while practicing with the older girls i might be able to play with them. During the practice they made me play out field. This was the first time for me to ever play out field. I didn’t do that bad

I have played baseball ever since I was a young kid, but somehow, at seventeen I still had numerous struggles with it. You would think after my grandpa being drafted to the Pittsburgh Pirates, a Major League baseball team, and my dad getting a full ride to the University of Denver their skill would have rubbed off on me, but you would be wrong. I wasn't terrible, I could hit a 90 mile per hour fastball and I could, for the most part, field a ground ball. However, I was definitely not about to be scouted by the college scouts.…

As soon as my dad could put a glove on my hand the learning process began and after my first practice I fell in love with the game. From that point on all I did was softball, it was my safe place, my other home and the one thing I knew I could do something great in. I would always want to just throw with my dad or my brother, as little as I was I wanted to show them that I could catch the hard balls they threw. Of course though, I couldn’t but I was in the process of getting there.…

Playing sports has always been my passion, I love everything about it. But one thing has always stood in my way; my size. I’ve never been the tallest person in a crowd and most of the time I am one of the shortest people in the room. I never imagined that this could hold me back from something that I love so much and could possibly make my dreams of playing collegiate softball unreachable. I first began playing softball at only five years old.…

I loved baseball growing up and I found myself on multiple teams at a time. One of the Leagues I happened to be in was the Lafayette Little League. My brother and I played here for many years and umpired as well. When I was 12 years old, I was put on the Little League all-star team. Unlike the years before on the team, this year was special because we had an opportunity, which was very slim, to go the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.…

Starting first grade I thought we were the top dogs because we got moved down to the bigger playground with the bigger kids. Since they knew we liked kick ball so much they built a kick ball diamond for us. There was just so much to do in the shortest amount of time. Everyday was a new day, I never did the same thing, whether it was playing on the upper part on the monkey bars seeing who could hang the longest or playing football with the guys. I can remember my first year at kickball I was taller than most of the guys because they haven’t hit their growth spurt yet, so everyone wanted me on their team because I was the only girl once again that was better than most of the guys.…

I picked it up and was skeptical about the sport because it seemed as if it was impossible to catch or pass a ball. I played for a Wheeler high school club team for my first time ever, I can say they were not a good team. The coach was harsh and tough on the beginners like myself and he made me want to quit playing. Mid way through the season he put me in the game and I had got the ball for the first time ever, I was so excited I couldn’t contain myself. I took the ball down the field and I shot, it felt as if time froze for me.…

Softball has always been a favorite past time of mine. The heat from the summer days, the smell and taste of Gatorade and sunflower seeds always bring me to the memory of playing softball. Merriam Webster Dictionary defines softball as a sport that is similar to baseball but that is played on a smaller field and with a ball that is pitched underhand and that is larger and softer than a baseball When playing softball, you have to have a glove for catching, a bat for batting, cleats for playing in the field and a uniform to match your team. Some other necessary gear you would need is softball pants, team shirt, high top socks, and a bat bag to hold all of your gear. Although different positions call for different items.…
