Hula Hoop Exercise

The purpose of this paper is to determine the level of physical activity of a college student in her early twenties and to compare that level to the recommended amount. Two activities logs that span over five days were written for this paper. The total steps of the day were also included and were gathered by a step counter, a Fitbit HR Charge. After the first log, the subject then also had to write corresponding goals that would increase or maintain the amount of physical exercise that corresponds to recommended amount of exercise. The success of these goals was determined by an analysis of the second log, when the goals were implemented. Hula hooping is considered to a resistive exercise that can be graded depending on multiple factors. Those factors depend on size and weight of the hoop, the material it is composed of, and the style of hula hooping one is doing. The amount of resistance is also determined by those factors. The most appropriate time for this activity is also around the peak time for exercise, which was at 15:00. Doing a hoop session around this time is ideal, as it gives the body enough time to digest any food intake around the lunch hour as well as have enough time to freshen up before the next class. When trying to implement hula hooping goal, the subject’s symptoms became worse, which is a contraindication to resistance exercise (Torrence, 2016) so the subject decide to stop with the activity. There was a definite decrease in motivation and energy during the remainder of the week, although, it is difficult to say whether or not this was caused by the illness or by the decrease in overall physical activity.
