Some examples are erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation. They reasoned within the book erectile dysfunction is not only a physical problem, but could be lack of self-control. If this could be the problem, the man would need to allow himself the delight of love making for a longer period of time (Penner & Penner, 2003). An exercise in the book helps to teach couples to slow down and enjoy each other, than complete the act of intercourse. Women as well have difficulties with sexual functioning. Women feel they need to pleasure their husbands and not themselves, possible medical concerns, or diet can all hamper the women’s cohabitation, even pain and lack of lubricating can affect sexual outcomes. It would have been helpful in the last section, if the Penner’s, (2003) had talked about getting professional help in more detail and showing it is not taboo for such help. It could have given them a smoother entry for such help. However, it was good to see that God was included and showing the facts with pornography. With so many people having this issue, with this book it can relieve some embarrassment.
In conclusion, The gift of sex was an interesting and educational book. It validated many questions and answers couples have with their sexual encounters. It had many illustrations, though explicit at times, would appear to assist couples. It had verbiage that they could have left out. In addition, their manner, or fashion of words could have been made simpler in many instances. Lastly, it was good to see they referenced God many times, even explaining how to put Him in the bedroom during sex. Over all, the book can help many students and couples on their way to good factual
