Philosophy is a Greek word that is often translated as “the love of wisdom.” In other words, philosophy is the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence, especially when considered as an academic discipline. Applying philosophy into daily living, it can definitely help me live a better life. It gives me the opportunity to improve how I can analyze and evaluate a situation or an idea, as well as, enhance my reasoning and critical skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving, proper judgement and decision making. Additionally, it widens my perspective and standpoint on a topic, allowing me to think fairly and honestly. To think about it, every day of my life is full events that involve philosophical questions.

I will question and find every little detail about the business before making my decision. Furthermore, the philosophical theories or parameters that I typically use the most to determine my thoughts and actions are ethical theories, sometimes epistemology, and mostly logic or rational thinking. Being a nursing student, ethics and morality are two of the most important components to being successful in the medical field. Ethics grants me the ability to decide what is right and what is wrong and provides me with the framework for evaluating human actions. For example, if I have a patient that being extremely rude to me and others in the facility, I wouldn’t simply go and beat the life out of the patient. I would simply use my conscience and ethics and attempt to calm the patient down or even remove the patient from the facility before the situation escalates even more. Moreover, epistemology is another area of philosophy that I utilize occasionally. For instance, after graduating from high school, for a short period of time, I had decided not to go to college without thinking logically about the consequences of my actions. However, after a long talk with my mom, I came to my senses and decided to apply to a college; knowing that without education, I cannot develop as an individual and go further in life. Hence, employing logic to determine my thoughts and actions has helped me come this far in my life, where I am few weeks close to acquiring my associate degree. Furthermore, I live the kind life I live because I do think it is the best life possible, at least for me. Now, if other people lived my kind of life, the world would be more peaceful and sensible place. First, the world would be more peaceful and free from all sorts of violence because I am an ethical person, and I form all my decisions, thoughts, and action based on morality.
