Why, has been the discussion of this research, why are these children not choosing the color that looks like them? Some would say because our society has changed their perception to the ‘white is right’ thought, but I hazard to guess that it is a combination of fear and trepidation. As soon as we are born our perceptions are being formed by those we interact with. If we see those around us acting differently based on differences that another has then I perceive that to be true and right. As Mahatma Ghandi is most frequently quoted saying, “We must become the change we wish to see in the world” if we ourselves are afraid or ignorant or both and feel we have to conquer others, change will never happen. We must stand in the face of normal and challenge what is considered right and be willing to accept that our perceptions are only our own realities and not others and that we must be open to seeing all sides of a situation, therefore influencing our own reality with the chance that it may be skewed and in need of adjusting. Our experiences combined contribute to our perception and what we are afraid of and what we need to do to erode our own ignorance’s to achieve change, not only within ourselves but in our community, our society and destroy this concept that ‘White is Right’. – Destroy the
