When it comes to my personal happiness I would say I am an 8-9. I have enough money to cover the basics that are needed for daily life. My children are, mostly, in good places in their lives. I have answers to what is different about my youngest boys, my oldest and I are establishing a relationship as mother/son (he was adopted by my brother and his ex-wife) and I have pictures of my dad.

The beliefs I have about aging seem to all tie in together. They seem to be different heads of the same monster. For to me aging means loss of mobility, pain, dependence on others, addiction to pain meds, death and separation from loved ones.

I am a very negative person by nature. I tend to see the bad and focus on that. About 10 years I left my ex-husband and started on a journey to be happy. If I couldn’t be happy then at least be content. I studied people who seemed to always be smiling, asking questions, looking on the internet etcetera. Then I ran across the poem that is attributed to Mother Theresa “Do it anyway”. I have tried to live my life with that as my guiding principal ever since. To do one good deed a day for someone else. It can be something as small as smiling at someone. To remember that you need to take care of you, always. Charity is not for the other person but for you. There are always going to be people who are ready to cut you down, to make themselves feel better. Ignore them, you are as important as everyone else. Material things are fleeting, but family/friends are forever. Friendships are as vital to a happy life as oxygen is to breathing. Nobody gets out of this life alive so why not help others along the path we call life? The human spirit is an amazing thing that can overcome tragedy, even tragedy that seems insurmountable. Actually I am wrong there were a few things that I often wondered about but had never really seen in action so wasn’t sure about them. That is the communal living. The spending time with other people, supporting strangers just because they needed it. I always thought …show more content…
For not only do they work every day in some endeavor, they also make each other a priority. The interconnectedness that is present in their daily lives help to maintain the happiness and satisfaction in life that seems to be missing in other Japanese culture. The time they take to just be is what makes them the happiest. Material wealth is not something they worry about and so are able to focus on themselves and each other.
As far as my own happiness level goes I believe the most important things I need to do right now are:
- Start exercising

Happiness is a word that is seen in a multitude of different ways by a multitude of different people. Everyone has their own idea of what happiness means to them, but it is a word that has no set definition. The author of “Happiness and Its Discontents”, Daniel Haybron views happiness as an entire emotional spectrum that is affected by several factors such as life satisfaction and being exposed to both pain and pleasure. Whereas Ed Diener and Robert Biswas-Diener the authors of “Can Money Buy Happiness”, describe happiness as the emotion someone feels when they obtain an object they believe will improve their life and can be acquired within their means. An example of this would be the joy someone might feel when they are able to buy a car…

Defining happiness is an incredibly difficult idea to portray. Different things make different people happy and there are so many ways that a person could express what happiness means. Webster’s Dictionary defines it as an agreeable feeling or condition of the soul arising from good fortune or propitious happening of any kind and the possession of those circumstances or that state of being, which is attended with enjoyment. Researchers claim that up to half of a person’s happiness comes from their genes. However, happiness is not determined by your biological makeup, but rather your mindset and the external influences around you.…

By getting more pleasure out of life, becoming more engaged in what you’re doing, and finding ways to make your life more meaningful, Wells explains these actions can greatly influence your happiness levels. Savoring each and every sensory drop from any given moment will increase your gratitude towards life's seemingly mundane interactions. Which brings us to the large topic of gratitude which Wells, in conjunction with studies by psychologist Robert Emmons, explains that “Gratitude exercises can do more than life one’s mood… they improve physical health, raise energy levels, and, for patients with neuromuscular disease, relieve pain and fatigue.”…

I theorize that the development of a basic protocol can effectively prove beneficial in both applications. Whereas, the core components of the research are identical, the varying aspect is the content of the positive psychology intervention.…

Scientifically, happiness is satisfaction, positive feelings, and a lack negative feelings (Porter 459). Most of us can agree with this statement and acknowledge that they feel the most happiness in these conditions, but what exactly is happiness? “For if happiness is what people strive for, one needn’t waste time trying to figure out what makes people happy. One must only look at what people do” (Porter 460). We choose to work and make money to benefit our happiness.…

How can you explain happiness? Well to me there you can't explain it, I would say it is something you would have to feel. Of course we know the definition to happiness is feeling joy, pleasure, cheerful or satisfaction. For me my happiness comes from just having a day where I have absolutely nothing to do. For example last weekend I had my whole weekend scheduled for me by my family and husband, they booked me a room in hot springs and for three days and the first day I went alone, they all joined me the next day, but the first day I had the best spa treatment and after all I had to do is sit back watch TV and order in.…

I find that the definition of happiness depends on the person and circumstances, and to me happiness is not a mere emotion that I wish to have every single moment in my life. Happiness is a relative term that some people consider an expected result of doing good deeds, and I believe it is a memorable feeling that lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of effort and always linked to a place in some way. In order to understand what happiness is, I looked into my past and tried to find out if there is a formula for happiness. From my perspective, the level of personal happiness fluctuates depending on the situation.…
