I had A’s in all my classes and was getting ready to begin the clinical class sessions for my nurse’s aide course. My class would be completing our clincals in a nursing home. I would have varying duties during each session to prepare me for what this job would be like in the real world. During the first week of clinical sessions I realized that being a nurse’s aide was not the career path for me. The nurses I worked with were burnt out. The environment was depressing. One of the residents even tried to bite my while I was taking his blood pressure. Despite realizing that this would not be the career I had intended it to be I did not give up. Quitting would not have allowed me to achieve my goal of completing the course and being pinned as a nurse’s aide. I continued to show up to the job site every day

I have been told that I am a person who can empathize with others, and consequently, people find comfort in sharing their stories with me.
