Retention is one of the hardest things to do around here. Officers get fed up when pay period after pay period their checks are screwed up, not by us, but by paychecks. We know that the vast majority of these officers live paycheck to paycheck and when their checks are not correct they either quit on the spot or don't come to work until their checks get fixed.
Currently we are like a revolving door; we hire to lose them in the first or second pay period because of pay issues. Today alone I have several officers who either did not get paid or pay rates are wrong. Just to illustrate, I had Officer Marroquin quit at 9 this morning because his check was wrong, Jimmy Vazquez can’t come to work because his direct deposit did not go through, Sgt.
