People are born with passion within them but also with a journey ahead of them to find what or where it is intended. Finding that passion comes in the brief or extensive discovery of something that resonates with themselves and their hearts. Passion is built from a simple introduction that quickly grows into more. For Darian Zachek, her passion for golf sparked from her father's attempt at an effort for bonding.

At the age of seven years old, Zachek's father would take her out to the driving range as a way of bonding with his daughter, and it was from there that she continued to pursue the game. With her interest peaked, Zachek's father had to teach himself the game so he would be able to teach Darian as time went on. By the time she was

Upon progressing into the collegiate athletic world, Zachek continued to make significant strides as a member of the Lobo Women's Golf team. Last year, she led her team in the home tournament to a respectable 8th place team finish and played in the Mountain West Conference Championships. She has also made an impressive improvement since Freshman year by lowering her stroke average from a 78 to a 72. Although she has her suspicions about the flavor of gum she is chewing or the location of her ball mark, those cannot take credit for the achievements that she has continued to make; at least not all of the credit. UNM showed its supportive and caring nature to its student-athletes, in addition to, a respectable team, and it won Zachek's decision. Even though Albuquerque is significantly different from Deming, the small town atmosphere is still apparent and has allowed for a comfortable transition for Zachek. In the few years that she has been a member of the Lobo Women's Golf team, she has built relationships and a bond with her team, her coaches, and other Lobo athletes. These relationships and formed bonds confirmed that UNM was the right decision for her. She has experienced support for so many of her peers and those from the community. In fact, playing on a public course has quickly become a rewarding aspect of her experience with UNM. Many supporters and fans have come to watch her and her team practice or compete on their home course and continually offer support and encouragement that continues to be a motivator for her and the team. Zachek's goal right now is to make an already great team better if she can do anything to help
