To put yourself in the shoes of an eleven year old just beginning grade six; a position we have all been in and can relate to. And then to imagine your parents taking you to another, strange, land, and a war zone at that! It’s an unreal position that not many people can say they’ve been in. By making the reader imagine that this little boy, Omar Khadr, is them, the point gets across much more effectively. Omar Khadr was raised to be a terrorist, but Sean Fine wants us to understand that an eleven year old does not chose, on their own, to become such a thing! In the following paragraph, Sean Fine has the reader imagine themselves as another young man, Christopher Simmons. Who, like Omar Khadr, was shaped into a deviant by the lack of love and attention from his parents. A human being can only take so much before they
