According to County Health Ranking (2016), “Out of 4,505 families in Dodge County, 1,825 are from single-parent households.” This is 41% of their families in the county.” Dodge County is made up of several small cities. 41% is a large amount of single family homes. As time go on, we are seeing more and more single family homes. With this information presented, Dodge County needs to encourage more parental involvement in their children’s education.
Importance of Parental Involvement Working with the school system, teachers are able to see the lack of parental involvement. According to Thompson, O’Neel, Gonzales, and Fuligni (2016), “Parental involvement in education –at home and at school- has been shown to be an important component of academic success (Hill and Tyson 2009), even among middle and high school aged adolescents” (pg. 1065). Students tend to do better in school when they have parents that show interest in their education.
