Also, for this article, the only source that Krieger used was himself. This really weakened his argument, where he should have used another more credible source. For example, Krieger gives the statistic, “…Half of U.S. adults and two-thirds of youth consume at least one per day – adding up to 50 gallons per person each year.” (para. 5). He does not inform his audience about where he found this information, or what study or survey was given to collect this data.…

Schlosser (argues?) that the industrialization and monopolization of the beef industry has affected the towns/cities that produce it, and how the beef is produced in and of itself. Schlosser supports his point through his recounting of how our current meat industry came into fruition. Before unionization, meat production was centralized in the Chicago area.…

First, due to the aforementioned fault in Fish’s reasoning, every example that he introduces in an attempt to prove his point, fails to support his argument. Being able to make a logical argument is key to gaining a reader’s trust. For example, if an author uses blatantly incorrect facts or statistics when attempting to prove a point, his or her reader would rightfully disregard the rest of the author's paper simply because they are untrustworthy. The same phenomenon hold true in the example of the article at hand, and so, Fish automatically loses credibility in the eyes of his audience regardless of whether or not his opinion is useful. Moreover, because Fish uses informal language throughout his article, the seriousness of his opinion is put into question.…

Although the author successfully managed to get his message across, the statements are concentrated on the negativity of technology and the detrimental effects that later on outweigh their benefits. His arguments, however, are flawed due to the biased manner in which they are presented. For example, when mentioning DDT, the author comes to a conclusion that DDT was very bad overall without considering all of the variables. He states that DDT ended up causing significant ecological damage but refuses to focus on the fact that millions of lives were saved or on the damages that would have been caused had there not been DDT. He also states that there are numerous examples of how technological innovations have previously caused detrimental negative effects that eventually outweighed the benefits they had originally created, however does not provide any examples or facts to support his statement.…

Without literally reading their nutrition labels, author Michael Moss assembles the facts about snacks and explains what makes these food-products as tempting as they are. Additionally, Moss uses his article, “The Extraordinary Science of Addicting Junk Food,” to establish a case which labels food manufacturers as chief culprits in the American obesity epidemic. Nevertheless, Moss’s article presents a few logical fallacies in the areas of ethos, but beautifully uses logos and pathos to express his main idea.…
