Owner Training Reflection

Improved Essays
On June 2, 2014 I launched a semi-revised and updated Owner Resolution training to four new-to-queue phone representatives based in Orlando. Since then every new class has benefited from changes and updates. Owner Resolution training is designed to build upon the participants current level of Count On Me service by adding conflict resolution, critical thinking and soft skills. The participants also receive greater empowerment to resolve a wide variety of issues owners may encounter using approved processes and compensation when necessary. It is an interactive training where participants are able to self-identify, explore, and share thoughts and experiences to improve their own soft skills and business knowledge.

After going through the training, time was not the enemy. What I saw was a sequence of separate training subjects taught as events. One disconnected from the previous. Creating a behavior where learners quickly shifted focus from one subject to another.

What has Changed

The two weeks of learning are now designed in a progressive immersion method. With each day adding a layer of learning followed by reinforcement of the previous day. This removes the training-as-an-event mentality. Learners are exposed to what they will hear and deal with daily from the first day. The participant is continuously challenged to reflect on what they have and it can be used in their current activity. In the new schedule I have attempted to combine subjects in a logical format that build in stages.

The redesign consisted of:
• The binder which consisted of 200 pgs is now a workbook that is just over 100 pages and an interactive tool to be used after training. o Saving training approximately $24 per request.
• Soft skills are now its own module that also covers critical thinking and reasoning

There are various opinions on many different topics, such as on new ways of learning. In the articles "Preparing Students for the New Reality" by Donald Miller S. and Thomas Slocombe E., "Mind Over Mass Media" written by Steven Pinker, and "Blue Collar Brilliance" by Mike Rose all share ideas and that are similar about learning, but have different perspectives of how to learn. Much agreement exists regarding different ways of learning, and is connected through experience, difference in teaching, and different mind sets in order to succeed. Most health care organizations may use a combination of different training methods in implementing an information system, such as the computerized physician order entry (CPOE). One of the most popular methods, according to Nicklaus, Kusser, Zessin, and Amaya (2015), is an instructor-led class in a classroom that contains all of the equipment needed to demonstrated essential functionalities, including printers, bar code scanners, identification bands, and medication labels to mention a few. The advantages of instructor-led training are the ability for end-users to ask questions, quick clarification of complex concepts, and easy identification of users who may need additional help. The primary disadvantages are the expense and resources needed…

I’ve had prior teaching opportunities and have done a number of work-related, in-service education sessions in my place of employment, most considered informal. Presenting and teaching to an unfamiliar audience in the community, however, it’s a whole different experience. It’s an experience where I learned a great deal. This paper will discuss the overall teaching experience including; topic selected, the rationale and how it was presented, the learning theory applied and what materials were used during the session and the audience’s evaluation, as well as my personal evaluation of this valuable experience.…

On September 30, 2015, me and five of my other fellow students that are in the generic nursing program at CUNY York college, were given the opportunity to do a presentation at Selfhelp center located in Bayside, New York. We arrived at Selfhelp at 8:45am with our Health Assessment Professor Dr. Amicucci accompanying us and began our presentation around 9:00am, on hypertension. I remember that a total of 15 people showed interest in attending our presentation and wanted to learn new information regarding hypertension. Selfhelp is a not-for-profit organization that has helped thousands of elderly and still continues to do so, by providing them with a direction in life. To complete the simulation, I decided to go home. This was to avoid the need to travel as well as to be in an environment where no one was informed about the assignment. As I drove home, I created my story of how I would explain my new condition to my parent. Considering I had work during the first half of the day, my story became, “I lifted a heavy box of files at work from a high shelf without positioning my body correctly. As I tried to take the box down from the shelf, I lost control which resulted in my injury.”…
