The Importance Of Overcoming Obstacless

Improved Essays
Obstacles are hard, facing them is what makes life interesting. In life, people will always have obstacles standing in our way, but there is always a way to overcome them. People overcome obstacles by facing challenges, having a positive mindset, and willing to get help/support from family and friends.

In the beginning, facing challenges may seem hard, but they can help people overcome obstacles. In the movie “Soul Surfer,” Bethany Hamilton, the main character, had a shark attack, she lost her left arm. She thought she would never be able to surf again, but she pushed her to believe she can. To me, I think she made a right choice because, if she gives up, she would have not want to do anything of her life. In the reading selection “A Work In Progress,” Aimee Mullins, the main character is challenged to use prosthetic legs that do not fit her actual size or do not look good on her. I think she should not be living in those conditions because, walking around in prosthetic legs that do not fit properly can make yourself uncomfortable. Facing challenges can make you feel like a better person if you can go beyond your limits.

In the reading selection “A Work In Progress;” Aimee has both her legs amputated, but that does not stop her from being confident and positive. This is a good example of respect and excellence because, she doesn’t let nothing stand in her way of being positive. In the movie “Soul Surfer,” Bethany seemed a little discouraged art first, but when she she pushed herself to try harder, she found her self-confidence. If I were Bethany, I would have kept my confidence no matter how big the challenge was gonna be. Having a positive mindset can make you seem more confident than you think you

Hey... I also agree with what you said regarding the influence a male figure, wether a father or somebody non related, has on young boys. Ignore Obstacles Through the 10 years of me going to school, learning, and ‘overcoming obstacles’ ; I’ve never thought anything i had to do or ‘overcome’ as an obstacle. My Ability to overcome obstacles has taken me to farther places in life. I was born into a selfish extended family that was incredibly hungry for money and land; not only that my father had an affair which lead to my family consequently harassing my mother about not having the income to support her children, this clearly proved that we where an unnecessary obstacle in their lives. Thankfully my Grandmother having already been well established in the United States had great means and resources to bring us here. From the moment I stepped foot on U.S. soil I was already living the dream that many immigrants spend their entire lives hoping to obtain.
