Overcoming Adversity
The best part of writing this paper was recognizing all of the adversities I have overcome lately. This paper and speech is one of the few things I really have to worry about. I live a great life, surrounded by my family and friends, and have more than enough of what I need. It is a blessing to know that I am overcoming adversity at this moment, because one of my fears is giving speeches.
It’s not only getting in front of the class that bothers me, but the process of writing a paper. Even though all my papers seem to turn out with good grades, my fear of messing up is irrational. I have learned that getting a little help from family, and positive reinforcement from them helps a great deal. A positive attitude can also

There were many factors that were tied up into all of this too. One factor was that I use to be so nervous playing, that it affected my game in a negative way.…

When facing adversity it can be difficult to return back to a normal life. When a challenge is presented, a lot of people might quit and not learn anything from it, but some people get through it and use the experience to become a better person. The star of LocoCycle is I.R.I.S, a sentient motorcycle that looks like it is from the Knight Rider era of television shows. IRIS is supposed to serve as a tool for an unscrupulous defense contractor, but after being struck by lightning she decides to attend a freedom rally in Scottsburg, Indiana instead. Pablo, her unfortunate mechanic, gets his pants caught in her chassis so he is unwillingly dragged along for the ride. LocoCycle is clearly inspired by cheesy B movies so don't expect the plot to make too much sense. Trying to figure out how a human being can survive being used as a melee weapon by a motorcycle with martial arts abilities will just lead to a headache.…

I can be biased in my own stories and conclude that I have made it through the toughest times anyone could ever experience, but I know that’s far from true. I feel fortunate enough to say that I have not been through the worst, yet the experiences I have encountered over time with overcoming adversity has immensely impacted who I am and how I view the world. Just this fall of my junior year, I made a verbal commitment to play hockey for the Colgate University Raiders. To me, this is one of my greatest achievements in life, not just because it was my top school for D1 hockey, but because of the journey along the way that taught me to keep hope, an open mind, and an open heart. My sophomore year, I didn’t know a thing about Colgate; in fact,…

The day that would ultimately initiate the hunger for success was a day that I believed in myself and had faith in overcoming adversity. The week began in my freshman year when my close friends convinced me to try out for the Men’s Varsity Soccer team at my school. At the time, I had never played soccer a day in my life so, of course to anyone I was guaranteed to not make the team. Well, when I went to try-outs, I was struggling to keep up but I would always give it my all.…

Adversity is a noun that I am no stranger to. At the age of 11, I became very ill with Scarlet Fever. It was the summer of my 6th-grade year and I was looking forward to Middle School. I broke out in what my mother thought was a heat rash, couldn't keep any fluids or solids down, and was rushed to the hospital after fainting and throwing up blood with a fever of 107.07 degrees Fahrenheit. The doctors told me if I had waited any longer to be seen I would have surely died.…

Obstacles are an everyday occurrence in life. Some are small causing short lived distress while others seem to shake us to our very core. I have had my share of problems both large and small and I have found that the most difficult obstacle I have overcome is the financial problems we have gone through for over six years. When I moved to Texas I was very young so I didn’t know what was really going on at the time…

An obstacle I had to recently over come during this semester of college was that I had a personal conflict with myself. I suddenly lost my motivation to do my work when it was assigned and I started missing class when I hadn’t missed a single class up until that point of confliction. I didn’t see a need to do the work when it wasn’t due for another couple days ahead, so I saved it till the very last day and I would stress and regret my decision because I was in a rush to do it. I didn’t even bother to learn from my mistakes I just continued to do it and my grades could have been better if I stayed motivated.…

The style of the popular novel has changed with every new decade, but one theme has consistently lingered in the history of literature: facing the unknown. Life is entirely an unknown, which was something all too familiar to Bret Harte and Stephen Crane. These two authors are known for works in which the main character or characters must push through a point of true adversity, be it mental or physical. The resolution to a theme such as facing the unknown has always been simple in word alone; it can be described as "adaptation".…
