Overcoming Adversity
The best part of writing this paper was recognizing all of the adversities I have overcome lately. This paper and speech is one of the few things I really have to worry about. I live a great life, surrounded by my family and friends, and have more than enough of what I need. It is a blessing to know that I am overcoming adversity at this moment, because one of my fears is giving speeches.
It’s not only getting in front of the class that bothers me, but the process of writing a paper. Even though all my papers seem to turn out with good grades, my fear of messing up is irrational. I have learned that getting a little help from family, and positive reinforcement from them helps a great deal. A positive attitude can also

No one knows why incidents happen in life; they just occur. Adversity is a hurdle everyone goes through, whether it is a large hurdle or a small one. Regardless of the person, adversity is an inevitable struggle to face and can be dealt with in more ways than one. Three people presented with adversity who found ways to surmount the difficulty, each in different ways, are Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Yoshiko Uchida, and Aimee Mullins, a record setting athlete, actress, and model that lost her legs below the knee.…

William J. Clinton once famously stated, “If you live long enough, you’ll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you’ll be a better person. It’s how you handle adversity not how it affects you.” I find this quote to be very true based on my upbringings and experiences throughout junior year of college. As I sit here writing this essay…

Roman poet, Horace, once said that, "adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant. " What he means is that when a person is put through misfortune rather than a fortunate environment, they're more likely to display their talent. Throughout history, there have been many people that showed what they could do, especially during dark times. Nelson Mandela showed his skills of leadership when apartheid took place in South Africa. Stephen Hawking continued to show his brilliance even after he suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.…

When facing adversity it can be difficult to return back to a normal life. When a challenge is presented, a lot of people might quit and not learn anything from it, but some people get through it and use the experience to become a better person. In Ishmael’s situation, he kept fighting to write a book about his life. Even after his parents died he didn’t stop fighting and continued to believe in himself to survive. Adversity breeds resilience because if you are in a new situation that you never were in before you might fail but after you work through and experience this situation you might get through it more easily.…

The star of LocoCycle is I.R.I.S, a sentient motorcycle that looks like it is from the Knight Rider era of television shows. IRIS is supposed to serve as a tool for an unscrupulous defense contractor, but after being struck by lightning she decides to attend a freedom rally in Scottsburg, Indiana instead. Pablo, her unfortunate mechanic, gets his pants caught in her chassis so he is unwillingly dragged along for the ride. LocoCycle is clearly inspired by cheesy B movies so don't expect the plot to make too much sense. Trying to figure out how a human being can survive being used as a melee weapon by a motorcycle with martial arts abilities will just lead to a headache.…

The statement that “Adversity is one thing we all experience at one point or another,” is quite correct. All people that live or have lived have suffered the pains of adversity. However the continuation of the statement is not as precise, not all “Texts dealing with adversity are moving portraits of people who are great examples of resilience.” This is because texts dealing with adversity can only show resilience in a limited number of forms, therefore in these texts resilience is shown as black and white, not as the many shades of grey it actually is. This can be observed in the texts “the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” by Mark Haddon, which follows the protagonist Christopher Boone as he tries to solve the mystery of the…

Adversity isn’t a word I became familiar with until I realized how different my life was from my peers. Since preschool I attended a private catholic school. Most of my classmates grew up much wealthier than I was, however this never really bothered me. I may have had less money, my grandparents may have had to help pay for my tuition, and I even struggled with severe anxiety, depression, and testing anxiety, yet I wouldn’t say that is where my adversity is derived from. My hardships and difficulties in life come from the lack of stability at home.…

An obstacle I had to recently over come during this semester of college was that I had a personal conflict with myself. I suddenly lost my motivation to do my work when it was assigned and I started missing class when I hadn’t missed a single class up until that point of confliction. I didn’t see a need to do the work when it wasn’t due for another couple days ahead, so I saved it till the very last day and I would stress and regret my decision because I was in a rush to do it. I didn’t even bother to learn from my mistakes I just continued to do it and my grades could have been better if I stayed motivated.…

The style of the popular novel has changed with every new decade, but one theme has consistently lingered in the history of literature: facing the unknown. Life is entirely an unknown, which was something all too familiar to Bret Harte and Stephen Crane. These two authors are known for works in which the main character or characters must push through a point of true adversity, be it mental or physical. The resolution to a theme such as facing the unknown has always been simple in word alone; it can be described as "adaptation".…
