the practicum is so designed that collaboration and feedback possibilities are scheduled on a daily basis where the Associate Teacher and the student teacher discuss lesson planning, classroom management and teaching practice. I have been placed Ryde Secondary College that partially selective high school that mean mathematics classes is operating in two different categories such as selective classes and normal classes that is consists of local students who lives in their catchment areas and commenced on 20.July 2015. I have withdrawn on 10th Aug that decisions made by PEU. One of my report from previous AT teacher at Dulwich commented on how I taught. My AT at Ryde Secondary College did not show store room to use or what to use. She just told me that prepare worksheets for 4 lower ability students. I never have seen any worksheets for them how she prepared and how it related to topic. AT knew 4 students not used to do 4 operations such as multiplication, division, subtraction and addition. But she did not give them times tables to do worksheet. I gave them to use because one of students told me.
Also for two different mathematics classes, I had to us my own study materials because of limitation of text books and recommendations books at school. I have struggled to select questions for review questions and main examples for each topic because of limitation. Also there were not enough sources for YR10 selective class when ANNE visited. This class only teaching halfway of Yr 11 works such as not introduced radian and just used degree when their topic was further

My class was 7ME and I had to set up my own classroom strategy such as using students who was not participate in and low engagement students or called names to ask questions. One of funniest thing is I could not see one student disrupted other because I was helping other students but she was blaming me. On next period, I had observed Yr7 MD – which is one more level upper than ME class. There were 3 teachers included me and main teacher was busying to helping other students and she did not see that one student was disrupting other student by taking book and pen. I stop him and came to main teacher to ask. She did not see this situation till I came to her and she told AT that” I am sorry I could not see “ after that

While I have been observing there has been numerous times that while Mrs. Johnston has been trying to do a lesson and she picks on students to answer questions, the students have no idea what has been going on or even what they needed to of said. For example, the class was going over what three characteristics a sentence needed in order to be a sentence. When she picked on three different students they had no idea what the class was talking about or even what they needed in order to have a…

I personally have noticed many changes throughout this course. I mostly noticed how now I analyze my jobs more with my coworkers, bosses and myself. I have one job that I absolutely love and another one that I do not care for very much, I did not really understand why because I get along well with my coworkers and higher ups. As our course went on and I started to understand business some more I then realized why there were certain things that were shaping my views about my jobs. One big thing that I noticed was the team work at my jobs. The job that I enjoy more has great team work, everyone knows their specific job and everyone does it well. We all do our jobs while helping each other when needed without having to be asked. Every one communicates…

Observations: Students were allowed to wear a hat to class if they had paid a dollar. Usually this is not allowed in class. They seemed pretty excited over allowed to wear a hat in the classroom. When the students finally settled in to the classroom, Mrs. Geisheimer gave the students a Do Now. The way she described the assignment was confusing because she told the students to do the right side of the page, but when showing the class the paper, she was pointing to the left side of the page. Most of the students looked very confused as to what the assignment was. Instead of asking specifics as to what she wanted from the assignment, many students just looked around aimlessly. When she saw this, she decided to pull out laptops and have groups…

For my field work observation, I observed Middle School students. The teacher used pretty much the same strategies for all three classes. However, she is more careful in class with disabled students. There are many types of students in each classroom. Depending on their needs she used various strategies. For example, If a student is easily to be controll then, she motivated them lightly. On the other hand, if the students is difficult to control then, she uses more strict voice and tell them in a hard tone so, they know that it’s something to be serious about. For example, in the classroom there were another assistant teacher, everything the teachers gave an assignment to do, the assistant teacher would help them. However, there were times, students took the assistant teacher for granted and were waiting for her to do everything for…

Classroom was a little bit small, but well designed, they had a smart board 2 iPod’s and 5 computers. There is not a functional curriculum in resource room; each student was assigned a different work based on their knowledge. To define students progress Horizon Science Academy uses NWEA testing. Special education teacher was in the classroom, as well as IEP teacher, that were providing extra help for students. This resource room had a schedule that teacher was following; Homework, IEP goals, Moby Max, which is online training, I- Excel Centers to practice math work, Accelerated Reader, and of course a free time when everything is done. Students in this classroom looked very lazy to me, they were not rushing on completing their work. I didn’t observed much motivation from a teacher, which is very important for students to set up goals and be motivated to achieve them. In my opinion, they were getting too much waver from being in this program, they looked very normal to me, and few of them had developmental delays but otherwise they looked disinterested, which was very sad to…

Supple moves much quicker in her first class than she does in her second class because in her second class. She provides more detailed instructions and allows for more time for the students to complete their work. One way that her second class is able to move faster is that she uses identical lessons from her first class and uses the work they completed for the second class to copy down. She was told me she does this because if she does not want the class would fall behind because it takes them much longer to come to conclusions than it does her first period class. I can understand that Mrs. Supple has deadlines and standards to meet, but I can also believe that it is unfair to the students to deny them an opportunity to grow their academic abilities with their own hard work. During my observation I noticed that her second class remains on task much better than her first period class and wonder if she gave them an opportunity to come up with their own work, instead of having them copy the previous classes completed work, if they would surprise her with better quality work. I, however, am not the professional though and have to trust that she is doing what is best for the students. I do think though by denying them the opportunity she is, in a way, stunting their growth just a little bit. There is a student in Mrs. Supple’s class, who will be referred to as Sally; Sally is a talented artist who likes to write poems to go along with her artwork. Sally’s disability was not…

I attended block teaching four days this week since the school was closed Friday the 23rd. On Monday the students worked on Cornell notes for three chapter headings then I held a review of the material. Tuesday was the day of my 2nd observation. I was teaching a lesson on Thomas Paine’s pamphlet Common Sense. This lesson was not my best lesson. I attempted to cover a complex topic with too many supplemental readings in addition to the textbook. This turned into pulling teeth during class discussion. The lesson left students feeling overwhelmed because they were not able to process all the material in such a short amount of time. On Wednesday right before the lunch period began there was a threat of a school shooting called in. This event dominated the class period the next day. My…

From a young age, I was involved with teaching, but specifically interactions with younger children. I thrive in environments where I can interact and help others. When I reflect on this semester and my practicum experience, the first thing that comes to my mind is motivation and drive. This is the first time I have actually felt comfortable enough to want to be in the classroom all day, everyday. This semester opened up my eyes in many different ways, and if anything, made me fall more in love with teaching and working with these students. After this practicum experience, I bring a new gift with me and that is confidence. I feel at easy in front of a group of students and truly feel that if my CT made me get up and help her teach, I could figure it out. Another gift I have is that I am able to be flexible for the needs of each student in the classroom. On multiple different occasions, I have had to work with a student one-on-one in the hall or help settle a behavior. I have learned that these types of experiences do not just stop because we are teaching. When I enter the classroom, I bring a special atmosphere with me that allows students to feel comfortable enough to want to talk with me and open up to me. I had one student tell…

I wanted to incorporate these skills into my project and challenge myself in new and different directions.…

The class had ten students from different grades. The classroom itself was right next to a cafeteria sometimes it is noisy. The noises take the attention of the students, especially in oral skills class where the focus is on listening and speaking skills. Every time I start a class, I write the tasks which we will take on the board. I tried to tell the students what the plan is and how to do it, which is more helpful for me and for them. I can refer to the list and try to finish the lesson as planned, and the students can refer the list of plan and know what they are taking during the lesson. After that, I asked the students about their last vacation. I asked this question, How many students spoke English in the last summer vacation? the class then talked about their vacation and who spoke…
