Community colleges are being looked at based on what they offer, if a student is interest in sports they are most likely to pick a school based on that. As children, our parents shape our ideas and opinions. When I was a child I thought Texas A&M was the only university my parents would let me attend based on the way they talked about it. I thought that they would not help pay for my college if I went anywhere else. It was not until I was in high school that I realized that Texas A&M was the only university I wanted to attend. I would like to study at Texas A&M to continue my family tradition, for the opportunities it offers after graduation and to be admitted to the dental school with a great education behind me.…

Two of the Effective Educator Goals that I have chosen to provide rationale on are, Manages & Motivates and Reflects on Practice. I feel very strongly that most students, when given a positive, encouraging, and nurturing learning environment, can motivate themselves to be socially interactive and engaged in their own education. When students see your positive energy, feel your desire to learn, and know they are an asset to your classroom; most often will put forth the effort to be an active participant. I have had differentiated environments to meet the needs of certain individuals to promote a supportive and meaningful environment that was conducive to learning.…

African American students often faced several different obstacles that alter or sometimes deter their goals of continuing their college career and leading them to graduate. Between both readings, they explain how African Americans are portrayed as less than, which is one reason they do poorly in school settings. Steele calls this; stereotype threat. “Stereotype threat---- the threat of being viewed through the lens of a negative stereotype, or the fear of doing something that would inadvertently confirm that stereotype” (Steele, 46). This is a major obstacle when it pertains to the African American students education.…

Personal Philosophy of the Student Affairs Field Reflecting on my personal college experience and those of my peers, I believe that the field of Student Affairs provides a unique and even essential opportunity to help shape the experience that student’s receive within the university setting. I strongly believe that students gain more from their college experience learning and growing outside of the classroom rather than inside. Self-discovery and personal exploration through extra-curricular activities and interpersonal interactions guide students through their academic careers and develop who they wish to become as an adult facing the “real world.” Student Affairs professionals help to ensure that each student begins their track to self-discovery…

After the first few quiet weeks in the Student Government Association, I decided to write my balcony assignment for the first week of student group appeals. Although I am a part of the Student Government, I am only involved in legislative meetings for my weekly committee update so taking a back seat and really observing interactions isn’t new for me. Often times however I just phase out the dialogue to get other work done. For this meeting I really wanted to tune in and see how a long meeting with many guests in attendance would work. I’ll start with the leadership.…

I think that all the goals were meet at freshman orientation we made them signs that made them excited, we showed them everything about the school so they won’t get lost on the first day of school. Each SGA member talked to a freshman about what they are looking forward to and what they aren’t. Next year, I think we could make more signs and let people hear more about what SGA does with the student body and outside of school, and maybe ask them to join. We also could talk to them about their classes and what they are have to do to pass the class.…

This type of classroom is a major goal of mine because I feel as though the students would really benefit. I am committed to creating a safe environment and creating positive reinforcement within my classroom.…
