A simple internet search for online dating can produce hundreds of sites in just seconds. The popularity for online dating meets the need of today’s society for convenience. With just a few clicks of a mouse, witty phrases, and the perfect photo a computer will analyze potential matches. Simple, quick, and with minimal effort, someone is ready to start dating. While some have had great success, online dating can be quite dangerous. There is a reality based TV show that details truth and lies of online dating called “Catfish”. Pedophiles gain the trust of single parents and children by pretending to be a caring individual. Anytime that someone makes contact and starts discussing personal questions about children, it should throw up a red flag. There is an abundant amount of public record accessible, and it would be wise to search out someone who may potentially be involved in a child’s life. This almost happened to me, thankfully being an overprotective mother and having friends in law enforcement kept me apprehensive. The person sitting on the other side of the screen was a listed pedophile and was arrested promptly after he was reported. The physical and emotional damage that could have happened was prevented by just researching this person. All my social media accounts were deactivated and new ones created, and monitored carefully by a friend who participates in programs similar to “To catch a
