I am observing the Starbucks on 1960 and Townsen Blvd. During this time, it is not relatively busy, but there are still customers coming up to the counter. It is a rainy evening so it is busier than a usual 2pm evening on a Wednesday. The cashier is polite and smiley, but she is working fast and not really paying attention to details. The barista is standing close by to quickly start new orders as they come in. I do not really see a situation where avoiding some kind of observation as an important part of needs assessment to be beneficial in the overall decision. An example of using participant observation in needs assessment would be most cases in the fast food industry as well as most service industries. However, I feel like things like secret shoppers keep a better tab on how well the participants are preforming. A secret shopper is a person who is very knowledgeable in the company that dresses like a usual client and asks and receives services from the customer like a normal customer would. This way the needs assessor is actively involved in the exchanging and conversation. I feel like when you can be more involved you can better assess the situation at
