These sports drink help to give you carbs, sodium, and fluids that you have lost during training. Depending on your body type most athletes should only be taking in fluids in the middle of training or a small snack with carbs. Eating protein and carbs during exercise can prevent muscles from breakdown and provides immediate fuel source. Eating during exercise is only beneficial under certain circumstances such as an athlete doing long intense training, people who are trying to gain mass or muscle, and endurance athletes. No matter where an athlete must travel, the fact remains that maintaining a healthy competition and training diet is still of the utmost importance. While people in the general population do have a typical recommendation for a daily diet, athletes require a higher intake of fluids and calories in order to have fuel enough to participate in the high volume of physical activities required of them. “…your body requires electrolytic minerals to maintain smooth performance of vital functions such as muscle contraction. Athletes who neglect this important component of fueling will impair their performance, and may incur painful and debilitating cramping and spasms, a sure way to ruin a workout or race” (1).This suggests that athletes that disregard the concern of electrolytic intake, may end up injured or unable to perform. Many people ignore these risks and end up taking in too little or too many electrolytic minerals, or may only focus on one electrolyte. “Supplementing with only one electrolyte or consuming too much of one or more electrolytic minerals overrides the complex and precise mechanisms that regulate proper electrolyte balance” such as excess salt consumption which will cause more problems than it resolves (1).…
