According to the American Heart Association, infants and children should not be inactive for longer than two hours, unless sleeping. (Clinic Staff, M. (2014, February 5). Fitness. Retrieved November 20, 2015) There are certain recommendations for children to exercise daily. These strong recommendations are that a school age child should get one hour or more of exercise, broken up into lengths of fifteen minutes or more. At a preschool level, the child should get two hours of exercise, sixty minutes of planned physical activity and sixty minutes of unstructured physical activity also known as free play. A toddler should get at least one and a half hours of exercise, thirty minutes of planned physical activity and sixty minutes unstructured physical activity or free play. Last but not least, for an infant there are no specific requirements, however any physical activity should encourage motor development. Like I said before, kids need sixty minutes of activity everyday. It 's important to find ways to be active that you enjoy like riding a bike, skateboarding, swimming, running around at recess, playing sports, dancing, running around with your dog, or chasing your older sibling, those are all ways we can be active. These are all several ways to stay active and these are just a few that will help your body stay more healthy. (Paul, M., & Robinson, L. (2015, October 1). Nutrition for Children and Teens.
