The Importance Of Nutrition Education For Older Adults

Second on the list of things that are offered in this plan is nutrition. Nutrition education for older adults is essential. As our population ages in the United States more attention need to be paid to the nutritional health of the older adult(Song, Simon, & Patel, 2014).Older adults in the rural communities are no exception to this statement. Older adults who are poorer often times do not eat healthy because they do not feel that they can afford the fruits and vegetables in a healthy diet. If the nurses are able to obtain nutritional personnel who are able to give talks to a small group of people this would be a great way to educate the older adult. Senior centers may be available and be able to offer the room at a smaller price for individuals to come and learn in regards to nutritional eating. This component of the plan may be more varied then the other parts of the plan. However the importance of the plan is a great need for the elderly person. In some aspects the plan to help the individual decrease the stress in their lives may already be a part of the first two components. Some individuals may simply benefit from the other two components in simply adding the socialization component for the older adult. Older adults need a connectedness with others of their same age just as much as any other age group. Staying connected with others also helps to support the mental status of the older adult (Song & Kong, 2015). Nurses may not be able to help the individual chose friends, but they are able to help to encourage the individual to socialize. The nurse may simply be able to help the individual find information that would help the individual connect with others and become a part of a program that has an interest that the individual
