Leadership is a vital aspect of any organization and should clearly be defined to provide an understanding of the concept behind the meaning. Kelly states (2012) leadership is a reciprocal relationship used instrumentally to influence others; leaders inspire, enlighten and engage others to participate. Having the ability to impact and lead others does not imply the general significance behind the meaning, however the capacity to assemble connections are vital while concentrating on a quality change of framework and procedures. There are three leadership styles that are commonly used today; (a) democratic-inspires open communication and staff involvement in decisions while having close personal relationships, (b) autocratic-leader decide on resolutions without opinions from staff, (c) lassiez-faire-permissive and passive characteristics who defers decision making (Kelly, 2012). These leadership styles vary among individuals and some may not possess all the essential qualities of an effective leader. The qualities of an effective leader do not focus on the traits learned, but on the inherited talents that the individual possesses. According to Frandsen of the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination (AANAC), nurse leaders set the tone for others, without regards to style of leadership required; it is essential to act with honesty, set reasonable objectives, to communicate effectively, encourage others and motivate your team members to provide efficient care (Frandsen, 2013).
