New Year’s Goals
This is a start of a new beginning, that’s what I think of when New Year’s comes around. I believe that when the New Year’s comes, it gives me and others around me new possibilities that they could not or failed to achieve in previous years. I take advantage of this opportunity not to change who I am, but to improve in area’s that could possibly ruin my life in the future. January is just as a chapter in a new book, and that is where the journey begins. I primarily want to focus on three things for this year of 2018. These include obtaining an athletic scholarship (Track or Football), maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and becoming a more responsible person.
Nevertheless, the reality of obtaining an athletic scholarship to a great school is one’s athlete dream. Working hard at practice, staying afterwards to get in extra reps, or just training in the offseason are all ways you prepare yourself to stay in shape. The reality is certain coach’s look for specific attributes that you may or may not have. Based on if you have

My last goal of 2018 is to become a more responsible young man to learn from the decisions I make. This goal will greatly impact me personally for the rest of my life, so this is the time I chose to start. The word responsibility has the meaning that you can perform and be productive as an individual without much help from another source. In school, being responsible is taking care of all assignments, making sure that they are turned in on time. Each and every task given by the teacher is handled and done to my greatest ability and not something I took 10 minutes to put together. Last year, I have made some major mistakes not taking school seriously, but thanks to the willingness of my teachers they have allowed me to make up certain assignments to get the grades I should have. This 2018 is a new start to show other who I really can be as a responsible young

Other stereotypes/misconceptions that are involved with these athletes are that they are dumb/ignorant jocks. These misconceptions are commonly brought up when talking about college athletes. However, most people do not know how disciplined an athlete has to be to compete at the collegiate level while maintaining the grades to be eligible to play. In the article, Athlete’s struggle against ‘dumb’ jock stereotype, written by Ashley McDonnell, a swim and diving athlete of Brown University by the name of Allyson Schamcher admits, “the dumb jock is totally a stereotype.” Adding to Schamcher’s statement, Leslie Springmeyer, the captain for the field hockey team claims, “There should be more respect for us – we’re doing all the academic work on top…

Would you want to devote all of your time and effort into something that you were passionate about and still not get the right money, attention, and gratitude you deserve. Well the demands of school and football make it nearly impossible to have a job and make money as a student-athlete (Dodd). A typical day consists of conditioning in the morning, class in the afternoon, evening practice and meals, with the hope that when it’s all said and done, some actual studying or homework will be done. Many people would argue that college student-athletes are normal students. That couldn’t be further from the truth.…

The person I picked to discuss these goals with my friend Brady Shorey, he has been my inspiration in school and has become someone who I really look up to. The main reason I look up to Brady is because he has created a life out of nothing, he has worked incredibly hard for everything he has; leading to him becoming a successful lawyer, Brady had goals and dreams and through his hard work he transformed dreams and aspirations into reality. His general response to my goals was positive, the one suggestion he offered was to start now rather than waiting. He explained this suggestion by stating, “the longer you wait, the easier it’s going to become to put these goals off and forget about them.” He also encouraged me to really push myself, not settling with a lower bar, but really pushing yourself by setting high expectations for yourself.…

Students that have been privileged with an athletic scholarship to play in collegiate sports have to understand that it is not a profession but a linkage to develop contacts with influencers and gatekeepers that will impact their future success into the national leagues or other areas of interest. These student athletes should not be concerned with receiving an annual salary or monthly stipend but focused on the most important component of obtaining a higher education which is to achieve academic success in a sound environment and develop professional skills to become an informed, efficient graduate and integrating those educational experiences into their profession as they make the transition after graduation. Any athletic student given…

In this paper, I argue that coaches should not be allowed to take away athletic scholarships from athletes due to their hard work, injury problems, and commitment to the university's. In the past coaches were found to have taken away scholarships because of injuries, commitment issues or the athlete was not good enough anymore to be on scholarship. In the end I conclude that athletes should still be on scholarship regardless of the injury, and that their hard work and determination should earn them the right to still be on scholarship. I also stated that the athletes should be allowed to visit other schools and that picking the right college takes a lot of time and thinking.…

Just like many of my peers, I came to college in order to allow myself a better and more option-filled future to do whatever it is that I decide to set my focus on. However, to obtain the right education and experiences to enable this, goals (both short-term and long-term) must be set. My short-term goals include making A’s in all of my courses this semester, securing an internship for the summer involving animals, and acing all of my chemistry 101 tests. As for my long-term goals, I want to get accepted into veterinary school, maintain a 3.5 or higher GPR as I get my undergraduate degree, and to positively impact others lives with my work.…
