The services that local health departments (LHD) provide to their community are immense, dedicated health workers work every day to ensure the safety of the water we drink, the food we eat, and the air we breathe. Health departments lead the way in promoting the personal health of the public with health screenings for chronic diseases of cancer and diabetes, detecting and reporting outbreaks of infectious diseases, and protecting children and the public with immunization programs. Many are not aware of the vast scope of essential health services their local health department contributes in the well-being of their community. The responsibility for local health departments to deliver quality health care in today’s world is a daunting task, no longer just an agency concerned with immunization for infectious diseases, local health departments duties cover a multitude of health care concerns of their communities. To meet today’s standards set by the National Association of County and City Health Official (NACCHO) LHDs must understand the specific health issues confronting the community, and how physical, behavioral, environmental, social, and economic conditions affect them. The fee is based on the jurisdictional population served by a health department. District Health Department #10 is a local public health agency whose jurisdiction covers ten county health departments. The population of the jurisdiction of DHD#10 is 261,616 making it the tenth largest state jurisdiction in population and the largest state agency in geographical area. The application fee for the District Health Department #10 is $21,000. The application must be paid before the Accreditation Coordinator can attending training sessions. In addition to the application fee, there is also an Annual Accreditation Service Fee of $8,000 which also covers any future reaccreditation charges.
