Domestic violence mitigation programme for Indigenous community
To build a domestic violence free Territory, Northern Territory government developed a domestic and family violence reduction strategy “to increase the safety of victims and their children, reduce rates of intergenerational trauma caused by exposure to domestic and family violence, increase accountability of perpetrators and establish integrated service delivery systems that are sustainable and adaptable” (Nothern Territory Government, n.d.). Conjoint therapy means the counselling therapy that is conducted with the participation of couples (both husbands and wives) to mitigate the violence (Riel, 2013). The examination of Madsen, Stith, Thomsen and McCollum (2012) to the 129 couples and the result shown that bilateral violence was a majority (74%), (16%) was male perpetrator violence and (5%) experienced female as an abuser. Trute support that conjoint counselling can be an appropriate method to approach to domestic violence counselling (as cited in Work, 2000). Ghanbari (2015) also agree that conjoint treatment can be conducted to monitor the relationship of the couples and to provide support to both parties while safeguarding women’s safety. Furthermore, he highlights that “conjoint therapy has the potential to be an effective treatment for inter personal violence with Aboriginal couples because of its holistic, contextualized approach and focus on family relationships. Edleson and Tolman (1992) suggest that conjoint counselling can help the couple to rebuild the relationship that were damaged by the violence (as cited in Work,2000). Therefore, conjoint therapy is the best suit to achieve the objectives of the project and to step forwards to a safer relationship of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander …show more content…
In addition, the project will also cover the educating and advocating the couples to the understand all aspects of domestic violence including legal punishments, important of respecting to the human rights and their own relationship goals. Power balancing and tension reduction will also focus in the couple counselling.
After the second step of project, the process evaluation will be conducted to measure the achievements of the project. The project evaluation team will be organized by the executive board of the project. The assigned team will apply the format of “Understanding Programme Evaluation an ACI Framework” that was developed by NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation in 2013. According to this framework the answer for the following questions will be assessed;
• to what extent has the program been implemented?
• have all the components been delivered? • is the program reaching the target population?
• can the program be fine-tuned to improve efficiency and effectiveness?
