The Importance Of My Values

“It’s not the plan that’s important, it’s the planning,” Dr. Gramme Edward’s words helped me realize how the process of planning helps to set a goal to work towards while the plan to get there is just a rough sketch. I want to use this life priorities paper as an opportunity to learn more about myself and use it as a rough guideline to achieve my aims and goals in the years to come. For as long as I can remember, I recall my parents, my teachers or my mentors, emphasizing on the fact that I should develop strong values and live by them. I come from Pakistan, where family is considered one of the most important part of one’s life. Before coming to the U.S, I wasn’t a huge believer of the concept of family, however, these couple of years living away from my family has made me realize, how important family is to me. Whatever I have today and all the resources that lead me to where I am today is because of the hard work of my parents. I used to take all the love and support I got from my family for granted, however, meeting more people and absorbing their lifestyles at college made me realize the importance of my family. I highly believe that, for my sanity and self-esteem, success is crucial for me. Obviously, I don’t expect myself to be successful in every task I participate in however, I don’t believe I need to be decently successful in most of the task I take part in to continue to have confidence in myself. In addition to success, economics stability does hold a lot of weight in my life. I want to be able to provide my future family with a peaceful and stress-free. By that I mean I am able to provide for them and have enough financial stability for my family to be able to pursue their dreams and aspirations without worrying about the finances. While my values help me set general guidelines for my life, my interests are the ones that will help me shape a live to live by these values. Over the past few years, I have noticed the problem-solving tendency within myself. I like to work towards improving things and improvising them.
