Joining the air cadet program at age twelve greatly aided me in this department. As a cadet, I travelled to camp during the summers which forced me to meet new people, and as a senior cadet I learned how to instruct lessons for younger cadets. This allowed me to become a bit more comfortable speaking in front of people. I am still very involved with the cadet program; I joined the Cadet Instructor Cadre (a branch of the Canadian Forces Reserve dedicated to running the cadet program) three years ago and now hold the rank of Lieutenant. Every summer I work at the Greenwood Air Cadet Summer Training Centre, where I am responsible for not only the education but also the well-being of about ninety cadets throughout the course of the summer. Even while working with cadets, I find myself thinking about medical-related things such as what kind of strain the cadets are putting on their knees and feet by not marching properly. Every year there is a surplus of cadets who injure themselves simply because they stomp their feet when they walk. This past summer, I held a lecture period with each group
