From seeing my maturation process from high school to college, I learned to live my life based on my values and belief. In high school, I was scared to stand up for my beliefs and values. On the other hand, in college I learned to stand up for my beliefs and values because my beliefs and values make up a huge part of my identity. The first time I noticed my conversion was in my CHS-100 class. One day, our class was having a discussion on prejudice of Chicanos and how Chicanos have to hide their heritage. In my opinion, I thought the discussion was interesting because I can relate from personal experience of prejudice in the United States as being a Latino. Based on the discussion, I realized the prejudice I received as a Latino is the cause for me hiding my culture. After the seminar, I was proud to say I was a Latino instead of hiding my heritage because of the nomenclature name that society in the U.S. provided for our culture; our identity. During that seminar, I learned that being Latino was part of my identity and is my integrity I chose to live by. As a peer mentor, I want my mentees to know that at the end of the day, it is your life that you control and stand by. By showing my students to live by their integrity, it will create confident college
