I can clearly recall looking at his hands and noticing all the marks, scratches, and multiple scabs he had. It was at this moment when I realized all the intense labor my parents were enduring for us. I knew that the only way to show them my appreciation for all that they had done throughout the years was to get a college education. Little did I know was that this wasn’t going to be an easy task. Most of my life I was ambiguous of my legal status in the country. It was not until my senior year of high school, that I realized that I was somehow different from most of my classmates. What made this difference was a plastic card that read on top “United States of America Permanent Resident Card”. At this moment was when I became aware that I’ll be facing an additional obstacle that most student in my class wouldn’t encounter – being undocumented. Research has shown that from the small percentage of undocumented students who complete high school, only 5-10% are expected to actually attend college. The fact of the matter is that the undocumented youth in this country is continuously presented with barriers that obstruct their search for a higher education- in my journey I have
