Throughout this lifetime, I have seen many close friends and family members struggle to find who they are in this world and where they want to be in the future. When I see people who cannot evolve, they dissipate into a life of drugs and alcohol instead of fighting for what they really want. It makes me take a step back and really think about what I need and deserve in my life. The things my family has given up and/or fought for my brothers, sister, and I to live a life of happiness and full of opportunities. Since I was a young girl, my life has been a series of unfortunate events and there was a lot of lessons and blessings that my family had gone through which has evolved me for half the person I am. I lived with a drugged up father, who wanted nothing more than to feel that high and not care about anyone else around him, and a mom who went through abuse and neglect but still fought through for my brother and I. I spent a lot of time with a family friend when my father had gotten arrested or put in jail. They were there to help my mom out with us children while she went to work. I don’t recall much of this life, but I have heard the many struggles and lessons my mom had gone through to make sure we had the best life when we got older. By the age of five, I could understand what was going on and the hardship my mom had gone through. My father had been in prison since I was 11 months old and was not being released anytime soon. Let me tell you, growing up without a father and trying to explain to your friends, whose parents were not divorced, that you did not have a dad or that your “dad” couldn’t make it to ‘bring your father to school day’ because he was too “busy”. It was probably one of the most mentally straining things I’ve ever had to endure. When I was four, my mother met my step dad who also had two children. This was a rough hill for my brother and I to climb because we didn’t want anyone to take our mom away from us after everything that had happened to us. But when they got married and had a baby together and moved us to a beautiful little farm town called Brentwood, we truly felt blessed.
