My life has been unexpectedly crazy and busy. My life become this way when I started a new job. I was hired on at Shoe Carnival. I began out as a part-time sales associate. I also had a second job at GameStop. I thrived at Shoe Carnival, I was the person they relied on. In roughly 3-4 months I was asked to move up two whole positions and become their assistant manager. At this point an opportunity to advance at GameStop was slim, but Shoe Carnival's was not. But I needed the promotion. So, I then left my job at GameStop and started to work full time. That was the beginning of me getting my life together. After being with the company for a year I started looking for a new job. So, I could get back with the company I most love, GameStop. When we did the VARK test in class it showed me the way I best learn. In fact, once my results of the test showed up, it all made perfect sense. For my visual I got a 16, auditory was 9, and kinesthetic was a 9. With these results, it made sense because I have always classified myself as a visual learner. The results only help prove me right. I mainly stick to the tools of the visual learner. I like to look at maps, pictures, diagrams, etc. I also when taking notes, I will use color coding. When I do this, it helps me to read and understand my notes much better. I also like to study in quiet places and read the text aloud to myself which these characteristics fall into the Auditory learning style. I would like to incorporate more tools of the auditory and kinesthetic learning style. I feel like by doing so it can help me become a more well-rounded student. After taking a personality test my result was somewhat expected but also not expected. I showed the ISTP- The Problem Solvers, personality. Some of the percentages I agree with and some I do not. I am the Introverted, 71% and this I can agree on because I am typically a reserved person. S is sensing, 3% which I can make sense of this. I am not a very traditional person and I do not have a very realistic mindset. I like to think way outside the box. With most of my ideas, they tend to be out there and hard to make it realistic. My goal is visual storytelling for print and digital that is content-driven, clear and easy to navigate. I accomplish this by collaborating and communicating with photo and word editors. This also requires staying up-to-date with daily news and being familiar with our newspaper's content. I often juggle multiple tasks during a design shift. In addition to my design responsibilities, I help make sure design desk schedules are accurate and posted in a timely manner, fix plotter paper jams, resolve digital issues, manage page flow, convert graphics to our style or correct them, provide detailed explanations of workflow issues, create illustrations and provide help to my colleagues when needed.…

I do not plan on transferring as most of my friends have, but I will to push myself to be proud of my decision I have made to stay at BC. I have gained, experience, knowledge, lost, and understand most things that I have been exposed to in my twenty years of life. One goal I have is pass the GKE (General Knowledge Exam). The first step would be to fully understand what the GKE is and what kind of tests I need to do to pass this exam. The second step would be to study as much as possible to ensure a passing score.…

I discovered my first visual metaphor after i had gotten out of the shower this morning. I shut the water off, hopped out of the shower and grabbed a hanging towel from the wall. Because of this exercise i was keeping an eye out for everyday items that struck me as something familiar. As soon as i pulled the towel off of its hanger it appeared to me that a whale had just jumped out of the water. The whale was all submerged except for its tail.…

    VARK Inventory Reflection

Reflecting on my results from the VARK and MBTI inventories, I am not particularly surprised by what I see. The VARK inventory came back with a result of multimodal: 11 in visual, 13 in aural, 13 in read/write, and 14 in kinesthetic; whereas the MBTI inventory resulted in being an INTP: introvert, intuitive, perceiving, and right in the middle of thinking and feeling. I have no problems being a visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic learner, or all at once, if available. Although I prefer to learn hands on and by teaching others what I already know, I can adapt to any learning or teaching style. While this does pose it’s advantages, I have always found it hard to apply myself with learning things that I am not wholeheartedly interested…

Entering the 7th grade I made the decision to join the art club, something that influenced my entire high school career. Art club was a place where nobody was judged based off their personality, self-expression was never discouraged. Joining art club as a tiny 7th grader, we became friends with some of the senior high art club members, who became our mentors, likewise we developed friendships with our peers in the year above us. Every year when Olympics of the Visual Arts season came around we would spend countless hours at school working on our project.…

I remember when I was 5, the first time I went to a building daily for 8 hours. I sat down on the cold blue chair. In front of me was a bin of crayons, all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. I remember sitting in the cold room and having the freedom to draw marks on my blank sheet of paper. The dye scratching against the table, colors spreading across the canvas like the sun, rising in the early morning.…

    4. What kind of learner? I would most certainly classify myself as a visual learner, more specifically the “school of hard knocks” visual learner. I notice that I learn the best from mistakes I see being made in both myself and others because I am highly motivated to not repeat them. The problem is that making mistakes throughout life is not desirable because some things can only be learned once, such as proper driving procedures or gun safety.…

When I was born, I was 95% blind, everything was a gestural abstract piece of artwork, well-made and beautiful. However, it was distorted in such a way that it holds no exact shape. Growing up I was completely dependent on my sense of touch and sound as my main senses. The hands of those around me told a story which today still rivals all my favorite books.
