I spent my primary school years in South Sacramento a diverse and suburban city with my biological mother, father, and sister. My teacher quickly became a mentor and an additional father figure in my life. In classroom discussions and at lunches with my mentor, my questions about life and diseases were finally answered. He further taught me the basics of research and scientific inquiry so that I could begin to find the answers for myself. My constant curiosity found a home as I quickly realized that there was plenty I did not yet understand, especially in the field of medicine such as the biological basis of cancer and its effects on the body. This positive growth and development continued through high school. Stepping out of my comfort zone, I accomplished long-standing goals. I took a multitude of Honors and AP classes and explored sports such as wrestling, tennis, and cheerleading.
