Introduction
My life has been a non-linear journey, weaving the places I lived, the people I’ve met, the things I’ve learned and the experiences I created into the fabric of who I am. From a young age, I had an affinity for art; envisioning ideas, creating through my hands, executing projects, there wasn’t some form of the fine arts that I didn’t dabble in. It wasn’t until my senior year in high school that I interviewed for the BOCES Cultural Arts Center in Syosset, a program that fosters the arts at the collegiate level for high school students, that I had a turning point in my academic learning. Foregoing the necessary math requirements in my senior year to make room for this program in my schedule, I transitioned from a student’s role as

There were sketches of the human form scattered across the dusty wheel-away chalkboards, as if we interrupted DaVinci in the middle of his next half-finished masterpiece, only to painfully vanish by the deft swipe of Frank’s chalkboard eraser. Except, these impressive drawings were Frank’s doing. On my first day of class, he taught me how to formally scale my drawings, a skill that is absolutely necessary in the foundation of drawing. Scaling your drawing to paper is using your pencil as a guide for measurements and angles. He wouldn’t let me use my trained eye to do so, he wanted to see us engaged in learning. Being above average in visual-spatial intelligence (Gardner, 1983) it did not take me long to master this skill and it left me wanting more constructive feedback. I was beginning to understand the intricacies of how we move, and how this relates to space and time, through shadows and shapes in life and on paper, and how this translates into something remarkable, which fascinated me. You absolutely cannot manifest a figure from a blank canvas without understanding how to draw the …show more content…
Three months after graduation, I sat for my certification exam to become a Registered Health Information Technician. What a relief it was to feel a sense of accomplishment and have all of my hard work come to fruition. I was working for a vendor that provided health information management services to a large health care organization and many smaller outpatient clinics. It was at this job that I had the opportunity to learn different healthcare information systems under my account and learned about tracking data, and troubleshooting complex issues which I will elaborate on in Chapter two of my AOL. Our world has been radically transformed by digital technology and integrating technology in health care is no exception. After the implementation of The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, learning the policies and healthcare information systems has become necessary in my career. The electronic health record (EHR) transformed the way care is delivered in my field. I entered my career at the right time with so much change swirling around the health information management field. Federal law mandated that any health care provider that wants to be reimbursed through Medicaid switch over to an electronic health record. Being the only employee at my former place of employment, OneSource Document Management, with an actual

As I mentioned in the previous assignment, I want to increase my baseline 500 steps each week so that by the end of the semester I am recording 10,000 steps which is in the active range. I will continue walking around the property at work and stepping in place whenever I possibly can. I will stick to walking to the mailbox which is two blocks from home as opposed to driving up to it on my way home. If I have days where I am tired I will just give myself another pep talk. I have a pretty good support system thus far so I will lean on them if pushing myself on my own does not cut it.…

For example, one who is solely proficient in one’s job field is not only deprived of a well-rounded education, he or she is also deprived of his or her full potential and insight within that field. For example, Dr. Irwin Braverman, professor to Yale medical students in 1998, discovered that when his students’ capabilities to diagnose were tested at a local medical facility, their ability to visually perceive and recognize symptoms proved unsatisfactory. Yet, this creative professor developed an unusual panacea for this alarming issue, “His novel solution was to take them to an art gallery. He teamed up with Linda Friedlander, curator of the Yale Center for British Art to design a visual tutorial for one hundred students. They asked the students to examine paintings, forcing them to unpack the many layers of detail and meaning in a good work of art.…

In addition to this, another trend in the field of healthcare and human resources is technology. It seems as though a new piece of technology is created every day, making the jobs of healthcare professionals more and more complex or difficult at first. Along with that, there is training that must go on for these employees with every change in technology. Hiring decisions must be made to reflect the technological capabilities of potential clients, in addition to how fluently these individuals adapt to changes being made to concepts like electronic health records (EHR).…

The health information technology revolution has begun, and as it progresses, the shake-up in health information management departments, processes, and data management will leave the profession profoundly different (Dimick, 2012). EHRs and accompanying technology like health information exchange, computer-assisted coding, voice recognition software, and patient portals-along with revamped government quality and EHR incentive programs-are modifying many aspects of HIM. Healthcare and HIM professionals have been left sprinting down technology's trail-blazed path, working to make the most of health IT systems and new data sets that have only just begun to show the true extent of their potential impact on health management and patient care. As…

Poverty crushes hope and that is certainly the case for my mother and older sisters. Although my five sisters and I grew up under the same roof, we each view the years spent in that two-bed room, loud and sometimes violent home differently. Furthermore, my siblings and I grew up fatherless and as a result, my eldest siblings took the brunt of the burden. They will tell you so. As the youngest, I never had to miss school or adopt the role of a caregiver.…
