I fractured two ribs moving a generator at my early morning factory job. I went to see a physical therapist for my aching ribs. She was extremely welcoming and gave me full confidence that she knew what she was doing. She gave me tips on how to heal the fastest. The most inspiring part was how she seemed to really care about my health. At that moment I knew I had finally figured out what it was I wanted to do with my life; I wanted to help people recover from injuries. I now knew which major suited my interests and the pressure of deciding disappeared. School was no longer about the letter grades or having perfect scores, it became about learning the most information. Retaining the facts to excel in my field. Having the knowledge to be the best at what I do every day, so I too can know the best tips to give my patients.
At seventeen deciding what to do after high school can be extremely stressful. Although I didn’t know it at the time, my plan would fail and then lead me on the right path. I always wonder what would have been if I followed my original plan. I may have lived my life with a job I was not interest in. For some, it may take years to fully decide what to do after high school. Age no longer seems to be a factor, it seems to be more about experience.
