Personal Narrative: Life In The Community

Improved Essays
Life in the community was perfect. Everybody said so. My parents, my older brother, my relatives, the Council all said that it was perfect. My dad, who enjoys politics, said “Alex, everything in the community and the society is carefully and precisely engineered and structured to be most efficient and to get the most out of society.” Whatever that means… I have no interest in politics. It’s just a bunch of men arguing around a table in you ask me. Still, the Council has done much for us, and I am very grateful for that. They provide us with food, medication, water, everything, when we need it. They even gave us our homes. I have lots to thank the Council for.
My community is a circle-based community. It has a huge edifice in the centre, and

I am thirteen now. I finally know and remember everybody in the community. I am the top in my class and I have a red bump on my nose that blew up one day. It’s called acne. My teacher told me that we learn about it next year. That’s a bummer. I guess I’ll research it at the library. But on my way to the library, I noticed a man I had never seen before. He was standing under a tree. I mean, I think it was a man. I couldn’t tell. He had no hair. I’ve never seen anything like it before. He turned towards me, and I recoiled. He had hair growing on the skin between his nose and upper lip. What the heck was that? And the veins on his forehead were really visible. They stood out like bold as brass. It disgusted me. He seemed so different. He had such an alien demeanor. I read about aliens once. They had no hair on their heads like him either. Maybe he was an alien. He began to approach me.
My first instinct was to run. Then he spoke. “Hello.” Maybe he wasn’t an alien, I consoled myself. He seems pretty human. I told myself that if he did anything weird then I could just yell and people would come running. “Hi,” I reply tentatively. He grins. “So you can speak!” he says. I managed to look insulted. He catches the look and explains that nobody had ever said a word to him that day. “Oh,” is all I can think of for a reply. Feeling awkward, I turn and say, “Well, see you around.” He gets the hint. “Goodbye

Some said that he was an alien from the sky. Others said that he was a man with a sickness that drove him mad. Still others claimed that he wasn’t even a human, but an animated machine or robot. The Council did nothing to stop these rumours surprisingly, as the Council tries to remove all rumours to maintain ‘social stability.’
I met the strange man several times after that. I learnt that his name was James. He told me many things about his world. About yours. I didn’t know a world existed outside my community. He showed me that the community was strictly controlled by the Council, with no freedom for its people. He told me that things could be better. So I left my community with him. It was a hard decision to make. But I stand here in front of you all, telling my story to the world outside my community. And if this is what it is like to live as an alien, I think I enjoy it a

While in the lobby, I met a racially and geographically diverse group of people.…

Every Life Matters I really only started understanding the meaning of abortion once one of my mom’s friends had one. Before that I had very little knowledge about abortion. My parents have always taught me to stand by what I believe and that others may have different beliefs. They always told me that I would meet people that would disagree with me and what I believe not only when it came to these kind of topics but many other things as well. Being told that, they told me to always respect people’s beliefs and their points of view because everyone has the right to stand by what they believe, just like I do.…

When Small Towns go big or go Organic There was a time when the town I lived in was a small society of farmers and factory workers. The town as a whole believed in hard work, good product, and solid kinship. This was a time when our social structure reflected the principles of mechanical solidarity and Gemeinschaft. The town began to transition around ten years ago as an urban area near us began to spread out and reach our borders. Today, we are still somewhere in the middle and reflect both social structures in different ways.…

A community environment serves an important function in shaping our personal development and belief system. The community an individual grows up in says a lot about that individual as a person. With strengths, comes weaknesses and every community differs in many ways. The community I grew up in may differ from the community others lived in, and that’s what makes us all unique and different from one another. No matter if you live on Grand View Drive or you live on the south side of Chicago each community has its different problems, and just because someone may live in a different neighborhood than you doesn’t mean you are complete polar opposites it just means you experience obstacles differently in your daily routine and that is completely…
