The temptation to celebrate your newfound freedom and escape from new pressures through alcohol and other drugs appears easy. Nevertheless, you are taking the “laid-back lifestyle” to a whole new level. Sleeping all day while just drinking and doing drugs all night is not the right answer. This is the reason Kev and I sometimes give you the cold shoulder, but this does not mean that we do not miss the old Chris. Seeing you like that makes us feel bitter, but also seeing you like that makes us deeply want to help you. Though we have become distant in the past few weeks, know that we are still here to help you. Things have gotten out of hand. You do need to get help; you need people in your life who care for you so that you can get better. We cannot let you destroy yourself anymore. I want you to remember the fun times we had as friends. While we continue having fun and are experiencing college with enthusiasm, you are not. You are missing out on all of it. It is causing you to skip school too often. The more time you are spending drinking and doing drugs, the less time you seem to have for your education. You are depriving yourself of an education, and you are depriving yourself of a successful future. Every week you seem to care less and less about your life and your education. I do not want to see you get in trouble for substance abuse. You need to remember how hard you had to work to get to college so that you could have a bright future one day. For that to happen, you really need to reconsider your decisions. If you continue on this path, your dreams will succumb to just another castle in the air. You need to take control of your responsibilities as an adult so that you can continue your education. You need to learn to adapt to this new surrounding as quickly as possible and keep your nose to the grindstone, so that one day you can be a civil engineer as you once told me you wanted to be.
