Personal Narrative: My Experiences In The Past

Improved Essays
My experiences in the past were a part of what formed me and what helped me continue to build my knowledge, skills, beliefs, and values. Some of these experiences involve helping others in the community, joining clubs and extra-curricular activities, and getting involved in the church community. I helped my church community by gardening the church’s garden, organizing food banks at school, and raising money for charity organizations. These experiences have made me realize how important it is to get involved in the community, to help others who are in need, and to be kind to others. My cultural background has also played a major part of what has formed me. Growing up in a Catholic family I was taught the Ten Commandments. Some of the …show more content…
I have never questioned in my life, whether or not that I am a girl. I have always accepted that fact that I am a female. I have, however received messages from others about my gender identity before. Some of my friends that are male have said that girls have it better in life than guys which cause a huge controversy. Some males also believe that girls still have the same gender roles as they did back then such as cooking, cleaning, and doing other duties around the house. Some men also do not believe that women should have the same jobs as men do such as being a police officer, the president, or an engineer. To me the school community does not really have a negative attitude or atmosphere towards gender identity. Towson University is more accepting with gender …show more content…
My classes have taught me that every student is different based on their cultural background and their family history. Every student has different values, opinions, knowledge, and skills based on their culture. My classes in school have also influenced on my interactions with others and have acceptance of others who have different cultural backgrounds. Since I am a Secondary Education History major, some of my classes have talked about diverse learners and about cultural diversity. I actually think that learning about others’ cultural backgrounds, where they are from, and what beliefs and values others have based on their culture. Watching the news all the time has definitely influenced my views on the world. It seems like all the news talks about now is just negative things that had happened throughout the day and have nothing good to say. As for the future, I believe that if we stop fighting with others and accept others for who they are then the world would be a more peaceful place it just takes time and patience. If this all happens then we will not have that much controversy as we do

Have you ever stopped caring so much that whatever happens, happens? I remember the time I had gotten in trouble by my mom because I had walked home from school. The Journey, In Retrospect The whole semester of English 5A was like playing with Legos, but with literature. I would use the things I learned previously in high school and build them up with the new things I learned from 5A. It was very difficult to find the right parts and piece them together to create the “perfect” essay. On the other hand, I was able to learn the necessary skills to converse with the authors in the text, From Inquiry to an Academic Writing, by Stuart Greene and April Lidinsky.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

Many people in my family had issues with substance abuse and addictions including my father. Although, I was raised by my mother and grandmother, my father’s actions and behaviors negatively impacted my life.
