My favorite book is Niccolò Machiavelli 's The Prince. Originally, this was a reading assignment, but I read the book out of personal interest. The author introduced me to rhetorical devices such as logos. Also, the author kick started my interest in society and politics.

I had adjusted fairly well to each class until my junior year in high school where I took AP biology. This was a brand new class in our school with a new teacher, so I had no idea for what to expect. I had no other student or teacher to ask how this class would be, but I took my chances.
This was a completely different class than any I had taken before. My teacher handed us two workbooks and a textbook that weighed at least five pounds and had text the size of an ant. This wasn 't what made the class different. What made it different was that the teacher did not really teach. She had slideshows to review, but they were not enough for her exams. I soon came to realize that my new class was a self-study class.
Before I had realized this I was nearly brought to tears by my scores. I knew that I was doing something wrong. With the motivation of raising my grade, I decided that I would read the textbook for the next chapter thoroughly. My grade gradually increased with every chapter till I had an A. Self-studying is a concept that was introduced to me in my AP biology class and has gotten me through many of my classes this year.
