The Importance Of My English Class

Superior Essays
Walking out of high school I can definitely say that this English class was the most vigorous and challenging classes that I have ever taken. Looking back on all the time I spent in this classroom, all of the lectures I have heard, and the countless nights I spent trying to make sure I was prepared for the next day was the least of my worries. This class definitely has prepared me for my life and college deadlines that are to come. I am now aware what it truly means to meet a deadline and the possible consequences if I do not do so. I think it that it is very important for high school students that are planning on attending extended courses to pursue a career to take a class such as the one I have taken during my senior year. Although the …show more content…
Although it was one of my main goals to get better test grades it did not go so well. Yes, my grades did improve, but they did not approve drastically. I simply find myself barely slipping by. I think it helped me to improve my test grades a little bit by listening not only to the lectures online, but also to the lectures within the classroom. Following the annotations provided online and having my own annotations I have found that helps me study. I do not think that it helped me study enough. I thought maybe it would help if I reread my annotations, but I could never bring myself to do it. There was always an excuse that I was making up for myself such as: going to the store, watching a Netflix series, or the inability to focus. There is no doubt in my mind when I go to college I need to develop better study habits. I keep thinking that I will find myself going to college parties, trying to live a life other than studying. I am not sure what I am going to do yet, but surely I will have to find a way to focus and study. The most common thing for me to do would to state that I had spent much of my time on this class and I had six other classes to tend to. That is not the only struggle I had during my senior year. I have concluded that I am a nervous wreck before, during, and after tests. I definitely could have studied better for these very hard

Actually, I am still in the most challenging academic course I have taken to date, AP United States History (APUSH). APUSH has been difficult for me due to the fact that I had very little knowledge of US history preceding my enrollment in the class. Furthermore, prior to this class I had never really had to study extensively to maintain high marks. APUSH has been different. Having little knowledge of this material, I have had to spend much more time studying.…

When I was in elementary and middle school I didn't really have a subject preference. I was just okay at every subject and I couldn't find myself interested in anything particular. I didn't feel lost because I had plenty of time to decide what I wanted for myself that would make me happy. After a certain point in my life though, I have always had a preference for English, a preference that I didn't act on until recently.…

Not everyone who attends college are successful at completing the courses needed to graduate. For many reasons, college students are forced to drop out willingly, are withdrawn by administration, or simply lose interest in furthering their education. However, the college students who complete college successfully and make it to graduation share some habits that make the odds of being successful work in their favor. Many college students succeed because they make it a priority to attend and involve themselves in class sessions regularly, take control of their education, and nurture relationships with the instructors on their school campus. One of the most important causes of being a successful college student is actually attending class sessions regularly.…

Even though there is more room for me to learn in future classes, this class has boosted my confidence a great deal. The area that I think that i have benefited from this class the most is in writing. I did take a little bit about of the reading, it thought me how to understand what point and author is trying to get across. When I am writing a paper now i know what person I should be in and how to draw in an audience. It is not like I am the greatest writer now,…

I was able to perceive reading and writing in a more deeper and understanding level, actually see the purpose behind it all. People sometimes do something and never really asked, “why?” I feel like that’s what I was missing in high school. Seems like Teachers follow a linear teaching style and never question the course curriculum they have to follow. Never go into a more understanding of what a course is about.…

I have been to every class period this semester and have been prepared almost every time. There was only one time in which we had to read a story and I only read half because I had spent that entire afternoon studying for a chemistry and biology exam, which just happen to be the story we would have a pop quiz on. However, I can honestly say that is the only assignment I have not put all my effort into for this coarse. I also do not believe I have every been a rude or disruptive student. Therefore, with these ideas in mind I do believe I deserve to end this class with an A. I was really jealous of many of my friends whom tested out of all of their English courses; however, after taking this class I am very fortunate that I didn’t because I needed this course.…

In May 2015 I had a major chemistry test to take, and I was a bit nervous because on previous test I've taken my scores were average or low so I was determined to earn an A or a B on the test . Two weeks before the test I started studying I came up with some new strategies that would help me . First strategy was to start off studying with Quizlet (Quizlet is an online learning tool created by high school sophomore Andrew Sutherland) so I would start off with the flash cards and take the small quizzes they had I did that every other day.…

When I began studying at the University of Montevallo, I had a background of high school creative writing and English classes, and one summer of a college English class. To be honest, I was terrified of jumping into my fall English 102 class. I felt I was unprepared for a serious college level composition class, and that I would have a strenuous time adjusting to a four-year university. However, as I walk away from my English 102 class I carry the understanding of writing a college level essay, undertaking research and completing a research and argument paper properly, and knowledge to prepare me for my other classes and profession.…

For one I now know how to correctly do MLA format.…

I would say that I learned the most about what it really means to have time management after this semester. Entering my first semester of college I had blind faith in the University, and myself because I believe everything would just work out and I would pass because it was meant to be. However, fate and hope are no the things to help you life as a new college student. The drive to wake up, attend class, finish homework, and accept the new responsibility that had been placed in my novice hands diminished greatly as the non-academic temptations became to creep in my head. I must be honest with you and let you know that I did cave and willingly participate in the sweet release of social experiences.…

Before I began my Freshman Development Seminar course with Professor Furet, I believed that this class would not be of good use to me. The reason for this was because of my beliefs in self-teaching myself to learn the basics with additional help from other sources. However, it did not turn out the way I wanted it to be. Therefore, I had to pay to get taught what I could have done on my own, at least that is what I convinced myself then and there. Throughout my class sessions with Ms. Furet, I learned more than I could have ever imagined.…

Since I was homeschooled through high-school, the way I preferred to study was pretty simple, yet efficient. First, I would have a pre-planned general, weekly schedule of all my subjects that I needed to complete each day, but it was a flexible schedule that just described what I needed to generally do each day of each month through the whole year. After organizing my textbooks and their folders, I would find all my books and order them in my “study box” to help me stay on track with the readings and extra things I needed to go through. Since I had a lot of diverse subjects that required different learning strategies, I always tried taking notes in accordance with my learning style preference and approached each subject in a similar yet different way. For…

Every student run’s across studying for an exam at one point or another, regardless if they are in middle school, high school, college, or even a trade school. Some students can breeze through the school years, while others struggle with finding the right studying method’s, putting them at risk for failing a class and not being able to reach their full potential. Instructors are always willing to help students succeed and learn new ways to study, but there is little guidance on what learning techniques are most effective for improving educational outcomes. Whether those outcomes are to move on to next grade, graduate high school or obtaining a college degree. Having a consistent study technique down, and staying persistent with the schedule…
