When looking at music and music therapy, another important aspect is how it impacts an individual socially. Music is also considered a form of communication. It has been said that if words could express all human feelings, music would have never been invented (Michel 68). This fact from the author means that music is a great source to express feelings and emotions. For example, love songs either are made because an artist is in love with an individual or they made a love song to express their feelings after a heartbreak or whatever the case may be. The term delay, is the inability to communicate in the code of the community at a specific developmental age, usually related to short attention span, poor auditory memory, and/or geographic displacement (Michel 71-72). The author is emphasizing this term because the term delay is very important to remember. It is important to remember because it explains a term that therapists use commonly so that the reader can get a much better grasp of the work that music therapist’s are a part of. Professional music therapists work with people within a wide range of disabilities, and the diagnosis does not always determine the type of treatment (Michel 92). Music therapists do not always have the same diagnosis for an individual’s disability. So they have to come up with a treatment that may help the individual, but sometimes the treatment is not what the patient is looking for. Music and music therapy is a very positive aspect when it comes to being social. Music causes happiness, can help depression, etc., and music therapy can create any kind of diagnosis to cure whatever it is a patient needs with the help of music. There are so many amazing things that music can do for an individual in their mental, physical, and social state of mind. The primary role of music is the communication in the area of emotions and feeling. Music has the power to easily communicate with an individual’s feelings. And this is because the music people listen to usually relate to them and their emotions that they feel.
