My favorite job by far has been my internship as a career mentor in the Office of Career Development at my school. As a career mentor, my primary duties are to help students with resume/cover letters, job/internship search and just general life goals questions. This internship has made realize why I love working with students. It’s such a great feeling when a student comes and they may be confused about their major or how to make a resume for a job; but by the end of the your time with them, you just see this light bulb go off in their head and they have this look of “I understand”. Even though it may be a very small interaction, I feel like I have made a small difference in their lives and I have helped them somehow.…

I understand the cost of living and housing changes the way people feel about raising the wage but there probably would be more people working if the workers can find a job to suit their schedules and payments. A higher minimum wage is important because it reduces poverty since we will have more people working, low-income families will have a chance to provide higher education for their future generations. A higher minimum wage can also reduce welfare since some people will be able to work and pay for whatever the government was supplying them with instead of relying on things like EBT…

(Wilson, n.p). There are also parents that have immigrated to the United States in hopes of a better future for their children but they are barely surviving on minimum wage, therefore, many have more than one job. According to Just Economics, the minimum living wage for an individual is $12.50 an hour. That amount is almost double the current minimum wage. Just Economics defines a living wage as “The minimum amount that a worker must earn to afford his or her necessities without public of private assistance.” Essentially, this shows that the minimum wage of $7.25 is not enough to live off without assistance. People cannot live on the current minimum wage.…

Dancing in the Spotlight Standing in the spotlight is a very frightening, gut-wrenching accomplishment. Dancing alone in the spotlight can be even more so.
