The Importance Of Moving To Boone

When I moved to Boone a little over three and a half years ago I came alone. Of course all college students are dropped off by their parents and sent on their way, but most students at our university have friends and family who also attend the school. Being from Virginia, I literally knew nobody and that was scary. A few weeks after I moved into my dorm my boyfriend of two years moved to Boone as well. His presence in Boone has made my experience less scary and I will never be able to show my gratitude for his move to be with me. Since I live with Graham and have been dating him for almost six years, I figured he would be the perfect companion for my compassionate listening, because after all he probably deserves it the most. Graham communicates differently then I do which is sometimes difficult to deal with. I could talk about my feelings all day long but it takes an act of God to get Graham to share the smallest glimmer of his feelings. It was a difficult time for him and it’s something he still struggles with on a daily basis. During this particular conversation we talked about Graham’s fears of one day becoming a parent and getting married. He is scared to get married because he doesn’t want to end up divorced and unhappy like his parents. With this fear comes a realization of the attributes he shares with his father. Sometimes, he catches himself in patterns that his dad demonstrated with his mom. I’m so proud that he recognizes these issues and wants to work on them before making our relationship “permanent.” Additionally, he doesn’t want to be a shitty dad when he has kids because he understands how much this sucked. I think Graham puts a lot of pressure on himself to be the perfect dad in order to overcompensate for all the experiences he missed out on as a
