Motivation A person can have all the ability in the world when it comes to academics or sports, but the ability means nothing without motivation. Motivation is something everyone can obtain, this is what moves people to get something completed. Motivation helps keep a person on track and focused on completing a particular task to the best of their ability (Ormrod, 2014). There are many factors to consider when it comes to a student and their motivation, such as: a student can enhance their performance by being motivated, the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, different factors can affect the students motivation, teachers can use certain strategies in the classroom to help motivate students, and the teachers motivation may affect the student’s motivation. Motivation is very important when it comes to a student’s education. It takes the student’s motivation to get him/her involved in the day to day academic activities in the classroom (Psychology Campus, 2008). Intrinsic motivation is when a person has to get something completed for a means to an end. This is when a person is motivated by factors external to themselves (Ormrod, 2014). An example of intrinsic motivation is when a student has to complete an assignment to continue to get good grades.
