Motivation
Motivation is important for my students because it helps maintain the classroom environment and helps my students have the desire to learn more. Students at this age have been extrinsically motivated to learn, while their intrinsic motivation has been dwindling. My job will be to encourage intrinsic motivation while avoiding extrinsically motivation to the best of my ability. Students will be able to find that by answering a tough question or completing a challenging project is a reward in itself, and help further motivate them to continue to learn and discover.
There are three basic psychological needs for Intrinsic motivation.

My students need structure and routine, so I need to provide a safe and predictable environment for them to learn in. I need to explain the rules and routine to the students from day one. I need to explain both to the students clearly and to have them posted on a wall in the room that students can see. I need to explain both the rules and the routine several times, especially on the first week of school. I will also need to establish how centers in the classroom work and what each center is. I will need to explain the rules for each center and have the rules posted at each center so the students can see them clearly. Some students may have already been marked for gifted or for struggling. Some students may still be learning English and some may have medical issues that can effect my classroom. Sometimes, that information won’t be readily available. Students may be flagged for IEP during the time they are in my class and students may move into my classroom in the middle of year. However, to effectively manage my classroom, I will need to be prepared for all of these different type of students. It may mean knowing I need to set an alarm on my phone to send a student to the nurse for medical attention or to receive medicine. I need to prepare my lessons for students on all different levels of learning. I need to be able to effectively handle any student who may have behavioral problems so they will not be a huge distraction in the classroom. I need to be able to do this in a way that does not require me to send the student out in the hall and end up missing parts of
