Personal Narrative: My Sense Of Humor

Improved Essays
The commodity in my life, is my sense of humor. I'm the type of guy who would make jokes and snarky comments to get a laugh out of my friends. I have wielded this unusual weapon, for years and it helped establish my identity, and improved my life. Without my comedy, I would have no friends, no social life, and I would have never been in a relationship. An example I can give, on how I used my comedy to win a situation is during a training session as a Venture Scout. I took the training session with my crew, and another crew that I never met. However, during the training session we hardly had a chance to socialize with the other crew, when suddenly a big gust of wind came out of nowhere and started blowing the crew’s bags away. When the wind finally died down I stopped, assess the situation, and then yelled “WHO FARTED!” and everyone laughed. This also helped me in befriending the other crew I made laughed. The reason I use my humor is a …show more content…
Comedy derives from the pain or misery of others; an example is the cartoon “Tom & Jerry” people love to laugh at the pain the cat Tom suffers through to eat Jerry. Some of my jokes are sometimes seen as mean to the person I poke fun of, especially since my humor is sometimes very sarcastic. Another problem is the filter I don’t have, also applies to my comedy, as I have said jokes that have gone too far or seen as inappropriate. I also give up my dignity, as being the jokester, you must make a fool of yourself to get people to laugh. An example is when I make snarky comments, that makes me look like the guy who can’t take things seriously, that is funny to the person but when a real situation happens, they don’t trust me because I'm the fool. Fortunately, I have learned through experience and trial and error how to restrain myself. The one good thing about a bad thing is you can learn how to use that bad thing to do a good

A weakness that I have is that I do not know how to say no to individuals that ask me for help since I love to help people. It is important that I learn to say no when helping others gets in the way of me accomplishing my tasks. It is important that I do both, but not when I run the risk of not meeting my deadlines and me staying late hours after work to get my work done. It has not been an easy task saying no, but I am learning to be okay with saying no because it is important that it does not interfere with my responsibilities.…

My talent is creating, and my form of creating is writing. Writing is a thing I've been doing since I was in the seventh grade. I started writing then because of a troublesome past, both my mother and my father had left my two other siblings and I all alone, leaving us with our uncle. It was very hard for me to adjust, I was fatigued and emotionally hurt, I turned to writing. My love for writing grew into a bigger part of my life when I kept dream journals.…

When I was younger, I would eat up books faster than I got them. I’d frequently been caught reading books in the zaniest of places. I remember wanting to try writing, although I could never fully convey the words in my mind onto paper. Every once in a blue moon when I was able to; only I could understand what I wrote. It had fascinated me, and honestly frustrated me, that people could write these whimsical and arcane books that I’d held onto like a mother to her child.…

Writing has never been one of my strongest skills nor my favorite. Even though I enjoy reading another person’s writing the thought of someone else reading mine just sends chills down my spine. I wouldn’t consider myself a decent writer whatsoever. This defiantly gets in the way of how I feel about writing at times, because it makes me insecure of what others are going to think after they finish reading my essay. When I signed up for ENGL 1301 I was quick to assume the course was just going to consist of reading a lot of material and taking quizzes that covered the readings.…

Does comedy help promote social change? Ramon Lopez, Iain Ellis and the documentary Tickling Giants demonstrate how comedy has had some social change but has not had a positive impact on society nor promoted great social change. Ellis discusses about how The Talk Show brought about a change in society but not a positive change in which the comedian expected since the nation returned to where they started or even worse. While Lopez discuss how the comedian Jon Stewart does not promote positive social change but rather degrading change in society. I agree that comedy can have a social effect but disagree that comedians can bring about a positive change.…

Every person in this world has an individual creativity built within them. My individual creativity personally took me a while to uncover, I only recently unearthed my true creativity during my junior year. I express my creativity through makeup, poetry, painting, drawing and redecorating my surroundings such as my room which I like to think of as my sanctuary because it’s the only place I can disconnect myself from everything, focus on myself and reflect on my days. Makeup is my main outlet of expression since that’s the one that’s in the spotlight and is a quote on quote paraded for the public eye to see when used correctly and minimally to enhance ones beauty it makes a person look more presentable and put together. I was inspired to write…
